Just found an old FWB 124 serial number 01064.  No Beeman markings.  Never saw one with such a low SN.  Anyone else have one with such low numbers?

s l400 3

Looks a lot like most 124s.

2002

Yeah, that one just sold.  Was gonna bid on it, but passed.  Mines a few thousand higher, so I'm out of the running...Wonder when they omitted that prefix zero?  Mines 40XX  and there's no zero-prefix.

There may not be a rhyme or reason for when the "0" preface was omitted.

Serial # 01064

bee, Your serial # 40xx

My oldest serial #'s.                 06xxx  &  79xx

As you can see there is no logic as to when the "0" was omitted.

Maybe more than one person in charge of stamping the serial numbers - I haven't a clue.

Cheers

That's lower than mine which is  01324. No Beeman markings either, plastic trigger. I figured early 70's but not sure.

Custom stock on mine now

It's beautiful!   How does it shoot?  I've heard that the old ones are better once tuned than newer version  tuned ones.

Where did you get that stock?

I think I bought my 124 stranded in 1978, not real sure on that ,

But the number on mine is #44559  Is that good, bad, or indifferent ?

Date seem about right ,

I drove Robert Beeman crazy before dropping the money on mine.

HI Mike

44xxx is in the middle towards the high numbers.  It's good because of the metal trigger.  Early models have plastic triggers.  I have a couple that are in the 40s.  They shoot real nice.  That's when guys like Randy Brimrose and David Slade were working on them. Hang on to that 124!

Nice older rifle.  I have a few 124, but the lowest serial in 6724.   Like the wood on your stock.  Thanks for sharing.

Lmao!!  Garage sale.

You had enough sense to buy a 124D.  I think you'll manage to find a good home for it when the time is right.

Meanwhile,  shoot it like you mean it.  It will always make you smile.

This is the FWB I bought from Mac1 that had a broken stock. I made this stock from a Weatherby blank from Calico Hardwoods.

Gun shoots great but is still a little harsh. I put a Macari kit in it which I think is called Promac but not sure,  It came with the gun

I just got one with a San Anselmo address.  Spring is junk. Going to try the Twister spring.  I'll let you know what happens.

Houli....if you beat me to the installation of the Twister,  keep me posted please and thank you.

You guys have me curious so I just ordered a twister spring to try. When I got my gun it had some sort of tune kit in it but the seal was junk, had a hole completely thru it. I installed the kit I got with the gun which I was told was from Macarri, but not sure what kit.  I buttoned the piston and did the usual deburring and cleaning etc then installed that kit. It was shooting the JSB 8.4 at 765 and finally settled in around 780 but is still kind of harsh, accurate but harsh.  I put the original spring and spacer back in that came with the gun and it was in the 750's so I put the new one back in and called it good. Now I'm curious about the Twister spring so I ordered one and I'll see how it performs. I would like it to stay at or above the 780 range but be a little smoother and quieter. The last one I had was like that and was a real nice shooter.

That #01064 may be one of the first 25 124s made, if FWB carried on its policy of launching at higher numbers than zero. According to FWB, the first 65 pistol was serial #1040 and the first 150 rifle was #0520.

That's some great info Garvin!  Who knows??? Maybe it's the first.

1973 FWB F12 and F120

Here's a cool article with a picture of a 124 Prototype.  That's probably number 1.

I purchased an 127 from a local collector that passed. The rifle was unfired until I purchased it. The old seal was still in one piece but lodged in the end of the compression tube lol. It’s serial number is 09278. I have installed a pro Mac kit and have fired it a bit. Very nice rifle!

Now that is a serious find!  Is it marked b San Anselmo?  Must be a great shooting rifle with the JM kit!

Thanks kingfisher, I can only assume that this rifle was sold by the old, and now defunct, Air Rifle Headquarters. It has no U.S. city designation as the Beeman imported rifles do.

And yes, it has a beautiful thup of .22 loveliness. Lol
