Hi everyone,

I’m in the planning stages of building a web-based survey to try to collect usage data from folks who have their own compressors.   My hope is that I can collect basic information from compressor owners that may help the rest of us make more informed decisions on buying a compressor.

Right now I’d like everyone’s input to help collect the various compressor “Makes and Models” that are out there and being used.  I have a started a Google Sheet with two columns.  Yup, one column for make and another one for model.    If you own or are familiar with a HPA compressor and it is NOT listed here, can you add it to the sheet or PM it to me?  Don’t worry about formatting, sorting or anything else.  I’m really just interested in building a comprehensive list of what’s out here.

Here’s the spreadsheet link:

Thanks!

For those interested in learning more, check out the “Survey Structure” tab in my link above.  It lists the other fields I will be asking about and collecting data for.  I’d welcome any feedback you may have regarding what information you consider useful to collect.   To me the main questions that I’m trying to answer through this data collection are:

What did you buy?

How much did it cost?

How much have you used it?

Has it broken yet? (with details)

Would you recommend it?

Here is an outline of what I’d like to ask in the survey.  The more pre-populated choices that I can make in the compressor brand and model, the easier it will be to make sense of the results!

Compressor Brand and Model Number

Duration Owned

--- 0 - 6 Months

--- 7 - 12 Months

--- 13 - 18 Months

--- 19 -  24 Months

--- 2 - 3 Years

--- 3 - 4 Years

--- 4 - 5 Years

--- 5+ Years

Purchase Price (US dollars)

Purchased From

Primary Use

--- Top-off gun directly (200 cc or less) to 200 BAR / 2900 PSI

--- Top-off gun directly (200 cc or more) to 200 BAR / 2900 PSI

--- Top-off tiny carbon tank (i.e. Guppy ~ 18 CF ) to 300 BAR / 4350 PSI

--- Top-off small carbon tank (i.e. 30 min / 45 CF) to 300 BAR / 4350 PSI

--- Top-off medium carbon tank (i.e. Tiger Shark ~ 72 CF) to 300 BAR / 4350 PSI

--- Top-off large carbon tank (i.e. Great White ~ 97 CF) to 300 BAR / 4350 PSI

Estimated Number of Top-offs So Far

Would You Recommend?

Experienced Any Problems?

Nature of Problem?

Would be better for your purposes to build a Google form with those questions built in. I fear that in no time an open edit g-sheet will be filled with bilge otherwise.

Thanks!  And hold off on sending the details of your experience.  I will be putting together the actual survey and sending it off to everyone to submit their data into it 🙂

Yup, that's coming.  (Actually I have something better than the google forms to collect the data  🙂

Great, whichever works for you Mr Coulter. As long as not all and sundry have open edit access to the resultant database (as they currently do).

It'll be locked down so people can only submit into it.  I will be sharing the results back here (and the other forums where I'm posting this)  of course  🙂

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Here is my list of compressors and models. Some of the compressors didn't have specific models given. Let me know if there are any obvious omissions!

I am also thinking about simplifying how people report use on the compressors. I will probably just ask for the number of hours of run-time.

Again, any comments or suggestions are welcome 🙂
