The post below about stolen guns just reinforced my thoughts of needing a gunsafe. Looking for something not too big, but enough room for say, at least 6 rifles and heavy enough...or I could go with something just strong enough that I could drill and screw to wall studs and floor. I don't mind spending a little (relatively speaking) but don't wish to break the bank so to speak.

Please I would appreciate any leads!

Thanks,

Bo

There are so many safe available at local stores now days. When I bought my second one (30 years ago) I had to have it shipped to me. Find the one that you think is the right size, and then buy the next size (or 2) bigger. You will not believe what you can keep in a safe!!

Yes....too many that it hurts my eyes. You are right about being able to store other things as well.

The prices though...jeeezz

I've noticed this store has great deals between Thanksgiving and Christmas if they are in your area (especially the larger safes):

If you live near OKC, I'd choose Bear.

There are cheap ones that are not fireproof and relativelt easy to force open and there are "fireproof" ones.

Do some online prowling and you will see how easy it is to break into a gun safe.  Bolting it down helps and positioning it so that they can't get a pry bar angled into the door helps but IMO the majority of gun safes are only going to stop casual thieves, not "real" ones.

If I were buying today I would probably get one of the "jobsite tool chests" from Lowe's or Home Depot that apparently provide about as much security for a lot less money.

I agree with TomNC. Nothing says,” I’ve got guns in here ‘cause I’m a gun safe”.
I use a vertical storage cabinet in and amongst my lawn and garden tools. It’s lockable with a padlock.

one thing to think about in selection of a safe is whether it accommodates SCOPED rifles. I purchased a safe that advertised "Stores eight rifles"...it turns out it will store only 4-5 SCOPED rifles.

Best way to store guns is building some false front walls or other storage areas that are invisible to intruders. A sliding wall panel say in a closet revealing a storage area behind it. Get creative.

i always thought a good size job box would work just fine

back in the late 70's and 80's there was a safe that was a chest style and i had a friend that had on

it was roomy the rifle didn't stand on there butt pads and you could put a pad on it and a cover of some sort and sit on it

if you thought about getting one measure your door ways

Any of the gun safes for sale now will stop most thieves. They want to be in and out. I'm not talking about the storage cabinets, real safes. Most farm supply store around us carry them and a good size safe can be had for less than $900. I have mine is a closet out of sight, but for years it was out in the open. it weighed 700 lbs. empty and with the interior that I built it's pushing 1500 lbs. loaded. No one is going to spend the time to try to take it, or try to breach it.
