I am not looking for the "best" scope for the rifle, I want the best replacement that is similar to the 4X20 1" Bushnell Banner .22 that is shown in the pic. I liked the size, looks and up until today, the performance of the Bushnell. Unfortunately, the crosshairs are rotating in the tube 🙁
My first thought was an older Leupold Gloss 4x20 ( VX-II or M8? ) but Leupold closed their custom shop so I cannot have the parallax adjusted.
I had an old Sportview very similar to yours do the exact same thing on a BSA Supersport. Also had a BSA Edge scope on a P1 that turned into a baby rattle in less than a tin of pellets. Most scopes just don't have the guts (internals) to handle springers.
I'm still partial to Leupold. If you have to have parallax way up close (10 yards or less), there are the EFRs. Leupold still makes two, a 6.5-20X that is really spendy and the 3-9X that is still quite spendy. I have the 3-9X EFR on my R9. It's as nice as you'd expect.
If you can make do with parallax in the "rimfire" range (60 yards) they make the VX-Freedom Rimfire in 2-7X and 3-9X, plus the FX-1 Rimfire in 4X. These three are less expensive than the EFRs.
I wish I could recommend some less expensive scopes but all of them that I've tried have failed; this includes Bushnell, BSA, Weaver, Simmons, UTG, and a couple "rebranded" models of "pacific rim" origin.
Good luck in your search. That's a nice rifle. It deserves a nice scope.
I have this one available. I got it on a trade a number of years ago when I was shooting springers. It was on a springer and was working fine. A lot of these Japanese made older scopes seem to hold up quite well on springers. Interesting reticle in it also. The scope is 11 7/8 Inches long, has a 1 inch steel tube, and weighs 9 ounces. To my eyes, it is clear and in focus down to 15 yards.

Thanks for the info and solid advice.
I recently sold a new FX-1 4X and replaced it with a discontinued Leupold 2-7X28 Rimfire Special ( I have two of those now on different rimfires). The FX-I is a great scope and I thought about keeping it and mounting it on the FWB but I liked the small 20mm objective lens and the gloss finish of the Banner. I do own a Leupold 3-9X33 EFR and have it mounted on a BSA Ultra SE. That is an excellent scope but I want to go as slim as possible and avoid scopes with an AO.
In the end, though, I might have to go with your advice on the FX-I or locate another Leupold Rimfire Special.

My 4x20 Banner was made in Japan. I realize that in its day the Japanese Banner series were budget scopes, but I really thought it would hold up on a medium springer.
Keep an eye on eBag for a Bushnell Sportview 4x32 ao. It was sold by Beeman as a Blue Ring. Beeman dealers also sold the Sportview as a cheaper option to the Blue Ribbon line. Got that? All made in Korea. The Sportview 3-9x32 ao is also an Airgun scope. Korea. They were pretty good and occasionally found on eBag for a bargain price. Another plus is they aren't as heavy as current airgun rated scopes. should hold up well on a 12 ft lb FWB.
Here's a Sportview and a Blue Ring. Same scope. The Sportview I see on eBag today is an earlier version and it looks pretty nice. Take a look at it?
it's pretty easy to set the parallax free distance on a scope but you might lose your "longer range to infinity" focus.
I have an LN, Japanese, Gloss, Clearidge 3-9X32AO sitting in my closet. They are supposed to be airgun rated but I really wanted to replace the 4X20 .22 Banner with something very similar but a little better quality.

This is going to be a challenge to find something retro. I lucked into one of those starlight scopes for mine years ago. I hope your able to find one of those Japanese scopes that were made for Robert Beeman. Try searching Ebay.
I have a Beeman Blue Ribbon 4X32 (think it's a 54R?) that I ran on mine for a while. They are pretty nice scopes if you can find them without the ridiculous collector markup. The fixed powers don't command as much money.
Nobody asked but I think blue on a scope is just plain ugly. I have several Beeman scopes but don't use the ugly things. My 124 wears this nice period correct RWS Hakko. Handsome!
I use a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x32(? Can remember for sure) atop a standard four bolt one piece mount. The smaller scope and solid mount seem to be just right for my applications. Not too heavy on an already liteweight rifle,…the beauty of this legendary springer.
This is my main squirrel gun and it does get an unfair use advantage over my other well suited hunting rigs,…..only because it has proven itself time and again. This year, i promised myself I would force myself to keep the Sporter in the safe and give the others a “sporting” chance?
Don't overlook gunbroker if you're still looking for a vintage, gloss scope for your FWB 124. Here's a bushnell banner 3-9 MADE IN JAPAN scope that the bidding closes on in a few hours
