I'm a big fan of this pistol, but for the life of me, I can't tell the difference between the two. I've owned a really old 454 for years, and it came to me with a bent grip frame from over-tightening. So I bought a NOS one from (I think) Mike Baker. It came marked 1600, but the casting is identical.

Blue Book lists the 1600 as an economy version of the original 454, but the Crosman website has the exact same parts diagram for each one.

Not that it matters, but is there any real difference between the 454 and the 1600, besides the nomenclature on the casting?

it looks like the rear sights could have changed along with the cartridge piercing screw, the grips have 2 numbers

just small things but the basic pistol parts wise looks too be the same

1600 had a non-adjustable rear sight, 454 was adjustable. As previously mentioned, there was also a difference in the little end-piece on screw you turned to (over) tighten the CO2 cartridge. Also, many of us ordered the adjustable sight for our 1600 once we realized what was up. Both of the ones I owned over the years developed warped frames. I had learned to be careful from the first one and the second still warped. After all, Crosman's are made out of the same metal as Hotwheels and Matchbox cars.
