I have a local competition coming up and was trying to get a little practice session in. Monday I went up to a family owned quasi ranch. They keep enough livestock there to call it a ranch. I like it because I can set 100 yard and under targets. As a bonus it has ground squirrels and rock chucks hanging around. So, I'd started out with a Impact Compact to do a little pest abatement before killing paper. I'd set up a shade tent and shooting bench and just set the gun down on the bench to go set up targets.
I'm up finishing the 100 yard and turn around to see cows had taken to the shade of my tent. they knocked the bench over and put my gun in the dirt. I'm yelling for them to get out of there while running to the tent. They could have cared less.
Insult to injury one of them had licked the gun and covered it with slime. Cow shit on the stock too.
Targets were ready so I put the Compact away and got out my new M3 Impact. Set it up on the reset bench, pellets ready, let's shoot. In my haste to pick up the bench I had not set the leg securely and it collapsed putting me, the gun, and two tins of sorted pellets in the dirt. Magazine was full of dirt too. What are the odds?
The day wasn't a total loss. Got 7 ground squirrels, three rock chucks and the dropped gun still shot this this five shot group at a 100 yards.
I still think I'll wait for a different weekday next time. ? ?
Some days its just to windy to haul stone
? ? ?
So that's what they mean by cow tipping! ?
Glad you still had a fun day. Nice group at 100.
Do you have the satisfaction that these cows will end up on the BBQ some day? Besides, cows don't have calendars, so it won't matter what day you go.
pluric,
thanks for giving us a good laugh. I appreciate your humor! ?
You might want to rethink your unlucky-day-of-the-week theory.
Because I have scientific evidence that it is not the DAY — it is the COW that wreaks havoc with our airgunning.
I explain:
I have cow farm permission where pigeons are rare, but there is a stretch where I can practice 100 yard target shooting....
Last November I made the trip (1h), and it was not a Monday — it was A SATURDAY.
Like you I had to defend my shooting table against the cows (to get 100y I had to set up right inside one of the corrals).
As I had to RUN back and forth between the car and the shooting table, I had to climb over a fence....
? And one time... — I didn't just fall off the fence — I FELL ON MY FACE...!! ?
Stupid COWS! (Or was it me that deserves the attribute?)
Matthias
