For all you folks taking your bottles in and paying them for a 4500psi (or any pressure 3300psi etc...) bring along a DEAD HEAD to check the fill pressure BEFORE leaving with your bottle.
Long story short, my 4500psi fills I paid for had been more like 4000psi and only recently decided to bring along a dead head and glad I did.
The clerk gave me some BS that the pressure can settle and drop a lot lower from the time they fill till the time I pick it up. Seriously? 500psi overnight???
Little do they know that I own TWO Scuba compressors! That is a bunch of BS to lose 500psi.
Maybe 100-200max from warm to cold but I always specify to them to top off after cooled down.
Even gave me a hard time first time I brought in my tank to them few months ago for its first fill. Clerk mentioned it needed to be currently hydroed and didn't see any current hydro on it.
WHAT??? The tank is LESS THAN A YEAR SINCE DATE OF MANUFACTURER???
It was a brand new tank!!! NEVER HAD AIR IN IT!!! "I have to check with the owner to see if its OK to fill yours since it doesn't have any hydro anywhere on it" WTF???
I own my own breathing quality air 5000psi compressors and even bought a gas powered portable recently as a back up to my electric one of the same model and recently 2 Young Hengs as extra back ups or to fill the guns directly but was out of town for a while and paid a dive shop to fill my 4500psi tank several times. They routinely fill to 4500psi (so they say) for local paintballers.
I bought the 2 Yong Hengs after getting the BS from that shop. Next time I am out of town I will bring a Yong Heng with me! Have yet to use either one of them YET.
That last time, I checked it with the dead head it read 4000psi on the dot then told them to refill it to 4500psi since I paid for it then a week later got the call tank is ready then went back and dead head again at 4000psi. They still have the tank now.
NO MORE paying for air and getting GYPPED for me!
Question to all- how would you feel if you brought your dead head to check the fill and it was 500psi short of full? After all the refills you paid them for? And all this time never checked?

Your term "GYPPED" infers that they are doing less than promised on purpose for financial reasons. I expect that in most cases the filling company sets their shut off to 4500 and they just remove your tank when it shuts off. You are also assuming that your tank gauge is more accurate than their gages. That may or may not be true. Of course, there are those that try to cheat, or are just lazy, and even a few who get enjoyment out of cheating. But, most people are just honest people doing their jobs.

GYPPED is correct because I topped it off with my home compressor to bump it up from 4000 to 4500psi before this last time when I brought my dead head.
I also have three separate adjustable tether regulators with gauges.
I really don't think all of my gauges are off by 500psi.
Now they are filling everyones tanks and I guess no one but me knows.
Or cares?

I home fill for myself and some family members. One brought over a 60 minute tank he had replaced the top on. So it was as empty as you could get. Filled it to 4500 and noticed it was down 400 psi a day later. Been holding steady so I don't think it's a leak.
Simply put, they did a fast and hot fill. I’m sure the equipment you have at home can’t fill as fast as the dive shops.
Many dive shops fill aluminum and steel tanks in water tanks for cooling and safety.
They are basically filling either too fast or with little care. That’s a near 85 degree temp change.

Well, due to the way pressure drops with cooling (about 1% per 5F), a tank honestly filled to 4500psi at 120F, then allowed to cool to 65F, would indeed lose 500psi.
Just sayin'.
