So, I spent WAY too much money on this project, but it was worth it. The aluminum 3/8” dovetail was cheap enough from Brownells, but the dovetail file from same was a little spendy. I can justify that purchase, because now I have one! I chopped the dovetail, then filed it down to accept an 11mm Pyramydair front sight. JBwelded to the muzzle lump. The end result is a little tall. I had to put a 4mm riser under the rear sight, and it’s still maxed out on elevation. I need to get another rear sight spacer, from Champion’s Choice, (but their website is very user unfriendly.)
What I probably should have done, for at least the same amount of money, was take the rifle to a gunsmith and have 11mm dovetails machined into the muzzle lump. But I’m stubborn and stupid, so I tried to do the DIY route.
Turns out the gun is surprisingly accurate at short range with 10M match sights.
File down the front sight to raise the poi.
for the next time

and your front sight is on backwards, not that it matters
i bought several of those dovetails, the short ones and the 12 inch ones when they were on sale, just to have, for when an idea arose
and it's only money

RWS 52 has a ramped blade front sight that can be adjusted vertically. It is not a globe sight to accept inserts. Just another option.
I have a 430, not an "L". It came with open sights.
If that's the Avanti plastic sight, you can get different inserts for it from Champion's choice. It uses Anschutz style inserts. I had to adapt one to my Sheridan as it had a broken off front sight. works great with a rear peep!
Jim, that looks great! On top of being a sucker for match sights, I'm still kicking myself for not buying the 430L when they were on sale.
If you can dig up one of the really cool AirForce match sights..."vertical travel" is its middle name, LOL. You can also remove the main body (which is a pretty nifty copy of one of Gehmann's compact diopters) from the base, and mount the front sunshade bit in a 1-inch scope ring.
One weird thing is the knobs work in opposite direction from most match sights. Clockwise turn will give you "up" and "right," which takes getting used to.
(Slaps forehead because he can't physically kick himself in the a$$.) I have an Airforce sight on my Daisy 887, which I didn't think of until AFTER I spent $79 on an Anschutz 10mm sight riser set. I guess this weekend I'll be swapping sights around.
Cool - will look forward to seeing that!
The clamp rail on the AirForce sight doesn't have a ton of flex, will be interesting to see if it works OK on the Diana rail (which on my older Dianas at least, is a hair smaller than the standard Anschutz 11mm).
Of course you always have the scope ring option if that doesn't work.
Took a half day so I could come home and play. The Airforce rear sight IS the ticket for the 430L. Match sights have made this gun come alive for me. 12 ftlbs, perfect basement shooter.
Turns out I can still get some use out of the ridiculously overpriced Anschutz riser. The Daisy needed it. One thing to know about the Airforce front sight: I love it, but it doesn't go that low.
The Daisy 887 still remains the most accurate 10M gun I've ever owned.
Those both look great! Boy now that the weather's improving, I need to shed some cobwebs and send some lead flying...
