I recently picked up a nice 80's-vintage model 35 that seems to be way oversprung. Can anyone recommend a good replacement for the original mainspring?

For a while, Diana actually sold the model 34 spring for this purpose, but noted it had to be cut down (34 is much harder shooting than the 35, and has a longer receiver.) Just wondered if anyone had found something nearer to the OEM spec.

Thanks in advance...

For whatever it may be worth, long ago I recorded a "new RWS 35 spring" as: .827 OD, .128 wire, 34 total coils, 12.14 OAL.

@mdriskill

Perhaps the BBS mainspring "database" will be of some assistance : https://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread.php?646926-Mainspring-data-thread&p=5864483#post5864483

Well...I did not even realize Vortek did that. A standard item on their site is an 0.825" OD; 0.128 wire; and you-tell-him how many coils spring. VERY cool!

I guess my next step is to verify what sort of spring is actually in the old fella now.

i was over on OMOPS 2 and compared part numbers on springs and came to the conclusion the 35 used a spring only made from that rifle, of course i could be wrong

i have never done any business with Vortek but heard they will make what you need or want

what i did see was the ID of the spring material and seeing that the rifle has or should have a long rear spring guide ID will be key

of course a spring for a Weihrauch might just drop end but that is above my pay grade

Spare parts for Diana Mod. 35 (omps2.it)

Thanks Mike!

I believe you are correct, the spring for the models 35 and 50 must have been unique. Even Diana themselves ran out of spares quickly after those models were discontinued (they instead sold model 34 springs that had to be modified).

But Vortek makes it easy to create a spring that would match the OEM model 35 dimensions that oldair noted above. They offer a wide range of diameters and wire sizes, that can be combined with however many coils are specified by the buyer.

i hope they can help Mike

will it be perfect maybe not but close enough works in the air gun world

the material used and how that material was handle to make the spring, the recipe are hard to duplicate

one batch to another could change how a spring performs

I had a VORTEK kit in my HW35.

Went back to basics.

Ordered factory spring from AOA.

Motörhead put it in last summer.

Absolutely fantastic.

Nice and twangy, I think.

THANKS to all of you!

I appreciate everyone's taking the time to reply - learned a lot, and some great leads to follow. I'll check back in after I do some poking around inside the old D35.

@mdriskill . My Hy-Score equivalent was twangy and harsh Mike. Shrink wrapped the guide, spring tar and rejuvenated the seal and all is well. Shoots mid 700s.

@bill_s Thanks Bill!

I had mine out of the stock yesterday, and I have about reached the same conclusion. There's no evidence it's ever been apart, so I think it's just dry and has a very stout OEM spring.
