Have 4 of these, are they all over over sprung. Hard to cock and obnoxious shot cycle. Earliest 1 is 7/88, 2 early 90s and 1 pro-compact.
- I have same issue and thought they would eventually improve. 3 Diana 34's, one is the Pro Compact it definitely has it worse than the other two. All 3 shoot well but have alot of twang too them. The 95' in .177 is smoothest I figure because of high round count, the Pro Compact .177 2012 version hardest cocking most twangy and a .22 caliber 2022 version that shoots great but twangy. They seem like they get better the more I shoot them.
- All 3 are tack drivers and handle nice.
- My question is should I have them tuned or just keep shooting them?
@tejarboc For me the Pro-compact in .177 does best and is scoped. Where as the plain old 34s with no butt plates are open sighted the harshest. Am thinking on the same lines as far as a tune goes. May be someone else can chime in. Thanks for your input.
I have one of the Chinese clones of the 34, and it had the same problem. A bit over sprung and kind of twangy. I cut a couple of coils off, finished the ends, did a proper lubrication job, and it turned into a pretty sweet shooter.
@doug-wall I think I am gonna give your advice a try and see if it smooths out the cycle on them.
Thanks for your input

My Favorites we’re the RWS 24 , 26, & 28 rifles ! Had many 36 38 & 34 ! All were accurate shooters but very Loud , Harsh and over sprung ! Also had 2 RWS LP 8 Tactical pistols , very Accurate And easy to shoot all day , unfortunately both broke down after only 25 rounds ! Won’t be buying RWS air guns anymore! Did have a 5G for 20 years and never had a Problem. Sold it and it was still shooting good ! Don’t make them like that anymore!

I concur they are oversprung from the factory. BUT... that can be fixed. JM offers a few different tune kits for the 34. I installed one in my .177 34N years ago, and it is the absolute last rifle I will part with. Great trigger, excellent accuracy, smooth shooting, an all-around do-all rifle.
They aren't THAT hard to work on, if you figure out the slave pin trigger reassembly.
I own 3 34's. First synehetic stock arrived dry lubed. I added lube and all is fine. Great shooter. Next 2 are gas ram. Lawrence of Arabia/sand synthetic converted from spring to gas ram with new barrel by Hector Medina. Wow! It's perfect hard hitter.
3rd is gas ram Diana discontinued 340. I got the Luxus walnut version with beautiful curly walnut stock. This has been my favorite breakbarrel, until I bought a FWB Sport.. This 340 has now lost power and I'm not going to fix it. It now shoots like a HW30/R7. Accurate as all heck and fun to shoot.
FWB Sport is the best buy a guy can make IF it has a new spring guide.
