I have a cobbled 2260 with an 18” crosman barrel. I was hoping to get a 12mm lothar walther blank but they seem to be out of stock where I saw them advertised (gmac) so I am thinking of getting a .22 Marauder barrel from Crosman.
My impatience is getting the best of me and the price isnt bad, Im wondering if a Marauder barrel will actually be considered an upgrade.
I am hoping for tight groups at 50yds+.
I have a Gen 1 Maurader in .22 that I am well pleased with. Some complained of accuracy problems, others were fine. I think it is fine, never had a Crosman barrel in several calibers that was inaccurate, but I believe it has a lot to do with the shooter instead of the gun. I don't believe as big as Crosman is, they would not correct a problem (if there was one) immediately.
I think Mountain Air has LW barrels that drop in, you might check there.
I have two .22 Crosman part # 2263s. One is currently mounted on a Marauder pistol and the other will soon be mounted on a Marauder pistol. I haven't shot groups with the currently functioning gun but I'm satisfied with its field accuracy at ranges to 25 yards.
I slugged the barrel that isn't mounted with two .22 Barracudas. They looked pretty good.
I bore-scoped the barrel with my Teslong(highly recommend) bore scope. Let me cobble together a quick YouTube video and I'll post it later. The barrel that is unmounted had a severe tight spot at the muzzle requiring a surprising amount of effort to push the pellet through. The rest of the barrel was what you would expect for the price, inconsistent ID, although not shockingly so, that I could tell. They could probably tolerate a lapping.

@bigbore Wow, thats a great reply. So that is an intentionally choked barrel? There is no mention of that in Crosmans description. Have you done other barrels as a comparison? I would have to do some work to adapt this to my 2260 and I was planning on cutting it to 18”

I don't know if they choke their barrels, I was just reporting what I found. I would probably slug the barrel and cut it where the constriction ends and recrown so that there isn't the 1/4 - 1/2" where it loosens back up before exiting the barrel, re-cut or hone the throat and lap. I'm shooting my other 2263 right now and cutting twigs @ 15 yards so I probably shouldn't slug it or borescope it, I'll probably want to "fix" it. ;?)
I've been looking at rimfire barrels with the scope, this is the first air gun barrel.
it appears that LW USA will not ship to Canada but you can get them from LW Germany
Yes I have corresponded with them in Germany and got a price list. I was scared off by the price so being a bit of a cheapskate Im always willing to waste money doing things the hard way.
I have a gmac barrel that I coerced my girlfriend into giving me for my birthday but its 15mm and I was hoping to not have to make a new barrel band. Here it is next to my Bam barrel, I just removed the Bam barrel from its breech.
This is what I have to duplicate so I will see how it goes tomorrow.
Gmac shows a 12mm LW barrel but they havent been in stock for a long time and my LW price list doesnt show barrels that diameter.
I have since corrected this, I did find the 12mm barrel on my pricelist.
Here is a pellet I pushed through the gmac barrel
The markings are really uniform and there didnt seem to be any variation in the bore as far as tight spots, the gmac isnt choked but they claim its made to LW specs.
Crosman barrel conversions….only “good” barrel I had was 15mm. Machining the barrel to fit a steel breech was about the same for any diameter barrel.
Was outlining the home-made barrel band to be drilled, cut out, shaped….friend came by...mentioned that the QB barrel band would work if center-to-center of the band holes matched the tube center to barrel center height.
OK...slap head...think “Duh”…..so much easier to raise the breecn/barrel than make a new band.
So I shimmed the breech (think of it as a mini-riser). Trial and error (enough variations in how it actually fit vs. how it would mathematically be shoujld fit that I’d still do it by the empirical method).
Once the barrel center to tube center was right, the QB barrel band did work...cocking pin didn’;t need to be changed from that little bit of height change. Couple of set screws in the bottom (tube) part of QB band...left the top a slide fit (to allow for at least some expansion/contraction).
Just an idea….might be easier to adapt the height to an existing band that would work, than making a new band.
-------
Will have to check when I can...wondering about a Challenger PCP front band. It’s made to NOT touch the barrel, work on the same spacing , just not sure what diameter it is to not touch a Crosman sized barrel.
I just checked my qb and the tube is smaller than the area where the band fits on my b50 by almost 1/8”. I dont think I have enough material to work with if I tried to increase the diameter in the qb band.
Thought the orginal poster was working with a 2260 conversion...didn't want to lead anyone into thinking the barrel bands would work on other sized gas tubes.
Yes I was so, sorry for going off track. Thanks for the info on the barrel band, too bad it wouldnt work on the Bam.
Im off to the metal shop to share what Ive managed today, after supper that is.
the thought does not always equal the experience.
My Crossman barrels shoot fine, can you shot small groups at 50yds with a pistol, that said I am sure a LW barrel will give you the confidence to do so.In the mean time see what the Crossman barrels can do at 25yds....if you have not already ,it may help the"wait".
