Anyone have a Crosman 1400? I bought mine in 1967 while in the Navy stationed in Meridian,Miss. It still works great. Never did a single repair to it.

I've had a  couple Crosman model 140s which is an earlier version with a shuttle loader instead of a bolt and a simple trigger vs your adjustable one. I liked the gun was very quiet due to the blow off valve. It was powerful and made more so (25 fps) by changing out the transfer port with 1/4"ice maker tubing. I think it shot close to 700 fps with 14 grain, .22 pellets.

  • I have a Crosman 140, 4th variant. It certainly is not a safe queen, has a fair amount of nicks, bumps and scrapes but she still holds air and smacks those targets with authority.

I liked the 1400 when I was a kid because it doesn't look like a BB gun like a Sheridan does. I thought the Sheridans looked cheap. Because they are.

My oldest brother had a 1400 and when I pulled the trigger on it I saw a puff of feathers. Sparrows were doomed when I took it out. I lived in the boonies but you could get Crosman pellets at several places fairly conveniently.

I also had a Crosman 1400 in .22 when was a teenager ! It was always a leaker unlike my Crosman Powermaster .177 and Sheridan Blue Streak ! Both Had Thousands of Rounds Fired and never had a Problem after shooting both for 15 years everyday ! My 1400 was repaired 3 times at Crosman Repair Center but still was a leaker !Hard to say why some Pumpers last for years and others always leak ! Now I have 2 Customized 1377 & 1322 never any Problems and Accurate and Mouse Fart Quiet Thanks to Buck Rail Moderator !

@kwk Sheridan are the premier pumper. Hardly cheap especially up until mid 1970s. Can't do better for a MSP rifle.

Just my opinion. Nothing more. Had one years ago just didn't get the hype and sold it. I'm mostly a quality break barrel guy. BTW I put a scope on it and looked at it. Almost made me sick. Not my thing. Enjoy yours. A lot of guys do as we all know. I think the first two models were kinda cool! THEY didn't look cheapo.

I had an 1864 Giffard front pump pneumatic. Brother, that was quality. Maybe the most beautiful pumper ever made. Maybe....IDK.   Even the screws were engraved and moulded into the contoured and engraved butt plate. Makes a 70's Sheridan look like it was made of sardine cans. Was it?   IDC

Yes! I had a rare Parker Hale peep sight for a Sheridan. It mounted on the other side. I have some pictures of it somewhere around here. Got it at a gun show in the early 90's. Sold that with the Sheridan I had. I knew I'd never need it again.

Don't think I'll ever have a 1400 either so.... I just thought my eldest brother's was cool 50 years ago. Fond memories. But I still don't want one now.

Oh, I do have a boatload of Crosman co2 guns!   But only the models I like.

Yep, me too. Beeman R10, R1, Webley Tomahawk (UK) in .25, Diana 35 and 27. But I still have a love  for a good pumper. Benjamin and Sheridan from the 60s and 70s were the ones to have when I was a kid. Crosman was meh. I harvested many rabbits and squirrels with a Benji 347. 20 rabbits and 22 squirrels in one year. We ate a lot of roasted rabbit and squirrel. My Sheridan is still a good sparrow killer with 3-4 pumps.

Off topic here, but I have a beautiful walnut .25 Tomahawk as well. It's one of my favorite airguns. And folks say a .25 springer isn't much good. 23 ft lbs with H&H FTT's. 725 fps. Too bad they didn't make more. BTW I have a striking fiddleback .22 Tommy as well.

I'm such a break barrel guy! And I have way too many. Shooting them at cans at unknown distances makes me a kid again.

I believe airguns do that for many of us. COOL!

I have one that I've had since maybe 1985. It was actually my father's but me and my friends would always shoot it. I think we got carried away with pumping it too many times and blew the seals. I kept it all these years and finally just re-sealed it about a week ago. I was surprised you can still rebuild them. I was lucky to find a safety switch because mine had the lever broke off and I also had to replace the rear sight. It could also use a new bolt because a little of it broke off where the hole on the bottom is at the tip, probably from pumping it too many times, but the gun still shoots good and is very accurate. I didn't have any luck finding a bolt though. I have the early 1400 with the slide plate.

I was wondering if people store their 1400 with one or two pumps in it. I read you should do that on other forums for other air rifles to keep dust out. So far I've tried keeping one pump in it but it leaks out after a while so I'm going to try two pumps. I thought maybe one wasn't enough pressure to seal it up. I can't hear air leaking out, it just doesn't pop off after a while with one pump when I pull the trigger.

I have a 140, 4th variant. I am not the original owner having acquired it used but it holds air and shoots as well as my abilities allow. I also read that they should be stored with a small amount of air so I've been keeping mine charged with 3 pumps and the safety engaged.

@napi Thanks, I figured that was probably also the case with this model. Mine has been holding air with two pumps in it.

@tntatro

You know after reading your post I tried leaving mine with just 2 pumps. Seems to be doing just as well.

Leaving pumps in a blow off style valve has little merit.
