Hi Gang:
I am looking to replace my aging Shoebox.
What compressors meet the following requirements?
(The Hill looks very good from here.)
1. 110/120 VAC operation (12 DCV optional).
2. Does not need external water.
3. Does not need external oil.
4. Can top up Guppy tank (from 3000 to 4500) without heat build-up.
5. Under $1000.
Thanx!
I've been thinking about a compressor a lot lately and this is probably what I'm going to get. All of my searching and research leads me to believe this is as close as you're going to get to your list of requirements.

you can't beat the air venturi mentioned above.
I top off my huge 98 cubic foot tank in less than 20 minutes to 300 bar.
Just a little more than you want to spend, but well worth it. You can use a good auto 120 volt converter for your 12v requirement. Buy once, cry once!

I have a Nomad II, and I think that it fits your requirement. The only thing would be that a Guppy sized tank might be a little on the large size for it, but it could be done in a couple of sessions. If you want to run off 12V, most of the larger compressors draw too much power to be practical. For example, a compressor like a YH uses close to 1500 Watts. With a 95% efficient inverter, it would be drawing 130 Amps. That amount of power is more than most car alternators can generate, and would require very thick cables, and bolted connections (not jumper cable clamps).
Bruce Dodson at Airetex Compressors now has his new small compressor, the Mini Magnum in stock.

I don't know the price of these, I think they are over 2K but I think they are sound compressors that produce breathable air. I bought one of his first ones and it had been used by AirForce Airguns for a month or two while their big compressor was being rebuilt. I don't know if the final iteration has any changes from mine except for the color of the case but I love mine. It will top of my tanks in less than 10 minutes, quick enough not to walk away from it. The main reason I bought this brand is because Bruce is a standup guy that will stand behind it.
