I have a BSA SuperSport break barrel in .22 that has started to string shots vertically. I bought the gun new in 1996 and put a SportView 4 power AO scope on it. Probably less than 500 pellets down the barrel. The scope seems to be ok but the barrel has a little play (vertically) after cocking and returning to battery. Not sure if this can be fixed or if I should just put the iron sights back on the barrel and be done with it. Your thoughts or recommendations?
Check the stock screws. I'm not saying that this is definitely the problem, but... I had one, same era, same caliber. It wouldn't show a distinct vertical pattern but the POI would gradually move during a shooting session. I'd rezero, then notice the screws were loose, then have to rezero again after I tightened the screws. Not for sure your problem but easy to check and simple fix, if only to eliminate it as the possible culprit.
@rockdoc65 Thank you for the suggestion. I tried snugging up the stock screws, but it didn't make any difference.
You might try a new breech seal. If the original is still in there, it needs to be replaced morethan likely. It may take the play out of it too.

Bob is probably right. A HW breech seal will fit so shouldn't be hard to source.
BSA Supersport was one of my first adult spring guns…killed quite a few squirrels with it. Hope you get the issue figured out!
