@bf1956

Protek Supply has a front sight for it . I'm looking for a set of sights for my Mercury S I'm going to sell on eBay. It's here somewhere. I have had the gun almost 40 years and very minty. With original box. Should fetch good $. Hopefully BSA didn't use those BA threads again! I'll  identify the thread AFTER I find the sight set.

Here's the sights with the gun. Probably the only .177 BSA Mercury S you'll ever see. Because it's the only one around that I ever saw. The sight screws are 3.5mm and I don't know the pitch. Doesn't match anything on my thread pitch guage. Typical British.

I shot the gun quite a bit carrying it around and plinking with it but I never goofed it up. Glad I still have the box because I should do rather well on eBay with it

Maybe I should mention the S version Mercury came with walnut stock instead of the very plain and ungainly blonde beech and a threaded hinge pin.

Does anybody even remember the Mercurys?

@bf1956  I had a BSA Mercury Challenger in the 80s when they first Imported to the USA ! Great Rifle ,Nice Trigger 780 -820 fps , only issue noticed was Long stock Screw under Grip seemed to get Loose after 500 Shots even when degreased and Treated with Loc-Tite ! Sold it then found a BSA SS Custom UK Export .177 Rifle from Air Gun Express (Iowa) That's a Real Keeper ! Manual Safety and not Over Sprung as The BSA SS Imported Models that were Imported to the USA !BSA has never been the Same after Gamo bought them out !

@bf1956 Yes that’s a Maccari Barrel Sleeve ! This Rifle is easy to. I know and Shot all day and has only manual Safety unlike Imports that had Anti Bear Safety Device which would always come off and Rifle wouldn’t shoot so you would have to remove stick to attach long Rod to Trigger unit ! Had 3 BSA magnums and Sold them all plus a BSA 240 magnum Pistol which was Englands answer to HW 45 , Beeman P1 Pistols! It was really bad ! My Old Tempest was even Better than BSA 240 ! No wonder the stopped production so fast !

Forgot to mention when I bought this BSA SS Custom UK 🇬🇧 Version from Liegh ( Air Gun Express) Nobody wanted it since it was only UK version 780 -820 fps I paid &136.00 plus $12.00 Shipping! Everyone here then wanted 1000 FPS ! Also bought a Diana 28 .177 which was also nice but not as Smooth as the BSA SS ! The Diana RWS 28 has 680 - 720 fps but twangy! Sold it to a Good Friend! Thinking he still has it ! That 28 rifle was also about 150.00 shipped! Great Stock , rubber recoil pad and Nice Shooter ! Wish I would have keep it ! You know that feeling!

@tomcin Oh yeah that feeling...I'm going to get the SS scoped soon. I'm trying to get my 3 season room done so I can shoot more. The thing is I just can't shoot without the whole morning going up in smoke.Ya know when I started school those class room days were so long. Now they are so short. Oh by by the way I am out of school now.

@kwk I much prefer the carabiner length. I'm thinking on sending this out for a chop and tune.

@bf1956

My Supersport barrels are way long IMO. I have them in .22 and .177. Magnums.

Supersports are hard to talk about because they made so many darn versions.

Supersport, Magnum, Lightning. All about the same gun. Then comes the various Spanish models. Gambsas?

The maxigrip rail is a BSA coat hanger abortion. Replacements are n/a and neither are the rubber gasket. A real pain to work on for what gain?

The Mercury and Airsporter are no picnic to strip either if you have much of a spring in them.
