I have been to all the big box stores I can think of in the Memphis area but none have PCP guns on the shelves. Since I have never even seen one in real life looking/touching one would be good. I can get excited about buying one but I want to see what I am buying.
Is there a map of Brick and Mortar stores somewhere? Maybe someone in my area can make a suggestion?
Moderators - If this is in the wrong place please move it for me.
@motomem Occasionally some of the actual firearm stores will carry a small selection of airguns and some assorted airgun ammo, could try giving a few a quick call.
The closest place I can think of is Champions choice. They are in La Vergne, Tn. They deal with mostly match guns and equipment. I would give them a call for an appointment. There is a airgun show in ARK. this April which is another way to touch and feel. Sellers may not have everything you're going for but it gives you an idea of what it's about.
@john-f
I saw the air gun show in AR. Have it on my calendar. It's a pretty long haul from me but "I takes what I can gets".
Might be a good time to plan a vacation that just happens to go by a well know dealer.
There are two Field target clubs in Tennesee, if they're not too far you could go to one of their matches and meet other shooters, ask politely and they may let you try out their rifle.

Sadly, GOB club is no more. David Slade at invicata is still up and running doing FT matches. He might have guns to show you or sell you to get you started. Or go to a FT match and borrow a gun to shoot. You would get opportunity's to try different guns. Look for a good 10-25 year old english or german gun. You can get killer deals on them and they will still win matches. Invest money in a good scope, not the gun. Will make you scores higher.
I have been reading these replies all along. I just didn't see the "like" button. Appreciate your replies and how active this group is.
I am not interested in competition shooting. Too old and too shaky. I find myself interested in something like the Air Venturi Avenger.
Keep in mind if you decide on a precharged gun like the Avenger you'll need a way to fill it. Either a tank that can be filled at a dive shop, a hand pump (like a bicycle pump but high pressure), or a small compressor. If you're in good health and don't plan on shooting a lot a pump is doable. Otherwise factor the cost of a fill set up into your plans. If you're OK with the fill set-up, Precharged guns are a hoot!
On the other hand a good spring-air rifle like the Weirauch line would be a great place to start, don't be put off by the recoil, just shoot it a lot and you'll figure it out. The HW30 and Hw50 come to mind.
