I have a little dilemma. I was going to trade my FX boss in for a 30 caliber FX impact. I’ve been reading so many reviews on the impact and really like the gun but I like the more traditional rifle look of the boss, the impact looks like something a stormtrooper in Star Wars would carry around! Is the impact that much better than the boss that I should just get it and deal with not liking the look of the gun? What do you guys think thanks in advance

Hi,

I had both, 4 different Impacts and one Boss. The Impact can do many things that the Boss can't, but finally, I gave up with the impacts, because they always fail at some point. Maybe I had bad luck and all the other Impacts out there are perfect airguns, but I have the first one, the one that comes even with a "picatinny" rail for the scope mount, that didn't have the right dimensions. Then the 3 other ones, where the next improved models, until the last one a few months ago.

I really wanted the Impacts to work, they have great features, but I gave up with the rifle. The Boss in the other hand, it's a very simple rifle, shoots great, etc. So, I sold all the Impacts and keep the Boss.

IMHO, go with the Boss, you will love the rifle.

Regards,

Alex

This won't help, I'm just the opposite of Alex. Have two Impacts in the family and one Boss. My son wanted a Boss so I bought him one. Fantastic rifle. Problem being we aren't rifle people. So much of the shooting we do is field or from a UTV.

The compactness of the Impact works much better than dealing with the length of a rifle. Both of our Impacts have been tuned by Ernest Rowe and shoot great. To date just a small O ring leak is all we have had for an issue with the guns. My son's also had the trigger first stage drag, still worked, and that was a warranty item. He has not shot the Boss since I gave him an Impact. We did the EBR last year for the first time. I thought for sure he would have used the Boss on the distance events. Nope, didn't even bring it.  In fact most of the top name shooters used Impacts.

I have three barrel options and normally leave mine as a .30. Loved it as a .22 but have other .22s that shoot so well I don't really need that setup. My son leaves his as a .25. I think because Ted won the EBR in 2016 with that combo. Also he could use the Boss if he wanted a .30 for any reason.

So I guess my advice would be to look hard at how you actually would be using the gun. If you do a lot of target rested shooting the Boss would be great. If multi use walk around pesting, vehicle transport and quick off hand is the norm I'd go with the Impact. Don't first world problems like this just ruin your day? ?  ?

ha ha, is not the opposite, please, don't take it like that. I have more than 30 pcp's, so I use the rifle and caliber that I need, depending on the situation. Yes, the Boss is like 7 foot long  ? , so I use it in some very specific conditions. When I have to shoot from a UTV, car, etc I use my Edgun Matador in .30 or the matador .25.

I was telling my experience with 4 different Impacts and it was terrible. Also, I know many people that never had a single problem with the Impact. Sometimes I bought airguns and accessories in the UK and in Krale (Netherlands), and both, Gerrit from Krale and Lloyd from BAR, told me that the Impacts are a PITA.

This is a place to share experiences with very friendly people, in a very friendly manner. So i'm not trying to say that the FX Impact is a bad rifle, I only told my experience with 4 of them until I gave up, too many problems with all of them. But again, I know a lot of people who loves the Impact and they never had a single problem with them.

 Regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex, I can't be offended and did not take it that way at all. I'm a 20+ PCP owner and honestly shoot a Leishiy .25 probably more than anything. Since the OP asked about two specific guns I tried to stick to that. Like you I look at each shooting situation and choose the gun best suited for that event. Personally I seldom see a rifle as the gun of choice. I just think people who choose to have one or two guns  should look careful of what they actually will be using it for.

When I bought the Impact I really thought it would be the last gun I would need with all the caliber options. I enjoy the gun and shoot it often, but not as much as some others that just fit a niche  better for me.
