Hi guys, I am new to the air gun world. I am planning to go deer hunting with my new 457 cal air rifle which allows me 2 full power shots before needing refilling of air. It shoots optimally at 4200 psi-4500psi. I bought the air venturi 74 cu. ft. air tank that is also 4500psi capacity. I was told at best I could top off the rifle 4-5 times with my current tank. What is the solution to refilling the rifle when at the range target shooting? Do I need to buy a booster pump? What is the best solution for refilling the rifle?

Buy a bigger tank! Boosters are air hogs themselves, and a lot of ranges don't have power. Another option might be one of the 12v compressors, but they may not have enough capacity to handle your needs.

There are booster pumps that work off your air tank that require no power . If you are just sighting in at the range for the hunt then your tanks limit or a pump would deal with the shooting . But if you are going to try using a full blown hunting rifle for target work you are not doing your self justice . If you do not want to buy a target rifle for target work . Try and replace the hammer spring with a lighter one to drop your fill PSI . You might be surprised at what the rifle would do at a lower fill PSI . It takes a lot of air to gain a few FPS . One more thought . If you have the Hammer that is regulated at 3000 psi . You could tether the rife and shoot it down to 3000 psi  on your tank . That should up the shoot count . Marvin

I think the realistic answer is that you need to buy a compressor.  Buy the best you can afford.  It seems to me that you have to spend at least $1,500 to get something worth buying.  AirForce is supposed to be coming out with a cheaper model that I was interested in but it has been delayed a long time and I am wondering if it will come out or not.

Both of you might look at the Crosman traveler or air venture nomad . Marvin

Prolly should start thinking of 6K nitrogen.  Lefty tightly, righty loosy.  Start contacting your local welding supply company.

good luck

People are having good luck with the cheap Chinese compressors but they need a filter for water on them  . I've had good luck with my shoe box but it takes along time to top off a 88 cu ft tank to 4700 psi
