Those "groups" with CPHP are pretty typical.  Did you notice there were several times where you had pellets forming 3 distinct groups?  That's a characteristic I've noticed many times over the years...seems to be indicative of pellets from multiple dies.

If the rifle is going to lay down proper groups, odds are it will be with the JSB 15.9 or H&N FTT.

What I really don't get is, why can your elderly gentleman friend get much better groups with HIM shooting it using the SAME Walmart CPHPs at 50 yards?

Theoretically the groups SHOULD be smaller when the target distance is closer.

Your shooting at 35 yards as compared to him shooting it at 50 yards, that is...

I have a 22 Discovery unregulated with its unmodified factory Crosman barrel that regularly gets nickel sized groups at 60 SIXTY yards with the Walmart CPHPs. The only mods done were the 3 screw trigger mod still using a factory plastic trigger and B&M Multishot breech using Marauder magazines and bull barrel shroud. All shots were shot using magazines.

That’s a good point.  I meant to ask if they were in fact from the same tin?  The way you introduced them in the video suggested it might be a new tin from Walmart.

My friend Ed did have a new tin but it’s  the same one I used. I was wondering about the 3 hole thing. Interesting. I should try rolling some of the premiers to sort them. I have 15.9 JSB . I’ll try those next and my FTT HN should be here any day.

Well in that case HA is right, your buddy is a better shot...at least with the Fortitude.  No shame in that, maybe your friend is used to a 6lb trigger 🙂

Seeing the potential of that batch of CPHP, I would go back and clean off the shelf.  I haven’t gotten a tin like that which will group at 50 yards in at least 4 years.

Well, I gotta say that the Walmart CPHPs are either GREAT or NOT. Based on my findings they have been mostly GREAT but maybe I am lucky IDK but I usually buy out the whole stock including everything in the back warehouse (clean their shelf and then some). But I have the Discovery, HW100, P-Rod with LW barrel and M-Rod with LW barrel and Armada and Puncher Breaker Marine all in 22 that can attest to the accuracy of the 22 Walmart CPHPs. Whats really crazy is that some of these prefer them over the JSBs and H&Ns and even the DOMED Crosman Premiers. You don't need to waste your time rolling them to sort those Walmart CPHPs based on my findings, also sizing them smaller usually doesn't help but WEIGHING them DOES. Crosmans tend to have larger than normal pellet diameters which I believe is the reason they shoot great in some guns. Harder lead alloy also helps by minimizing the damaged pellets in their tins compared to other brands. I gotta tell you that I got this P-Rod with LW barrel that can accurately reach out to 80 yards using CPHPs even shooting the ones with the heavy distinct parting lines and is shooting slower than your FORTITUDE.

I have another H&N FTT loving P-Rod just as accurate at 50 yards but for some strange reason can't keep up with the other which prefers CPHPs at 80 yards. Perhaps up to just under 60 at most.
