No wonder my P17 was shooting shotgun patterns. Scrubbed the bore, refaced/re crowned it on my lathe and set the offset at 6 O'clock to try and outsmart it, but it still shoots like a shotgun with every pellet I tried.. Not getting a warm, fuzzy feeling about this pistol.
Bought it used, so guess I'm rebarreling it. Anyone have any advice as to where to get a chunk of .177 barrel?
well at this point my advice is stop, everyone loves this pistol but they never talk much about the bad pistols they have gone and there have been many, mostly bad seals
a Crosman barrel would be the cheapest option and can be found lot of places but the p17 can be found on Ebay for 36.00+- and that is a little over the cost of the barrel to your house
I'm not sure I would fix it even if I got it for free, it a parts gun
just my opinion

dump question could you rework the barrel and turn it around, how's the loading end look, more then like wouldn't seal right
I'll second Mike's suggestion... if you're going to keep it in stock length and caliber. Your cheapest and best barrel will be the one that comes in your new P17.
That being said, I have re-barreled a P17 and HW40 because I wanted longer barrels like Skillet mentioned. If you go down that road, make sure you start with a known and proven shooter or get a quality blank (LW, HW, etc,). I learned the hard way not to play the barrel lottery if you're going to invest several hours of machining time.
More info (and a dwg) for one way to fit a longer barrel, if you're interested...
