I was looking on Amazon for the current price for a P17 pistol as a gift. They have gone up. 😮 Anyway, they always have other options that pop up to consider. First one I saw was the Beeman PCP pistol. It looked similar to my Diana Bandit that I have always considered a fantastic value. $153??? for that amount I had to try one.

When it came in I was a little surprised at the physical size. Seemed a bit large for a pistol. Grip felt ok and it has an adjustable palm rest. I cocked it to try the trigger. Nope, that wasn't going to work for me. I believe it was over 4lbs on the pull. Popped of the stock to see what could be done with it. It is not a coil spring system. Has the kind of spring that wraps around the trigger pin with the end wires putting pressure at each end. Tried just bending the end wires to relive some pressure. Not enough.  So I removed the spring and stuck an allen wrench through it to hold it while I crushed it into a bit tighter wind with some needle nose pliers. Ah, much better.

Here is a three shot pull average and the break is not bad.

Since these were "Budget" purchases I wanted keep them that way and source existing needs from my air gun junk drawer. The smaller Red Dot sights I like were only in a weaver base. Then this barrel style showed up with a 11mm base. Good for now. Cleaned the barrel, very rusty colored cleaning cloths. Let's shoot it. It is a .177 but too loud for my backyard. I have immediate neighbors and try to stay below the radar on my backyard activities. Looked online for options to mount a moderator. $45 for an adaptor let alone a moderator. Measured the barrel od. 13mm. Back to the junk drawer. Had a Donny FL Tatsu with 1/2 threads. Hmmm, my largest metric drill bit was 13mm. Drilled out the threads and tapped it onto the end of the barrel. Silence is golden.

Getting a bit ahead of myself I'd found this site, Buck-Rail.com that has all kinds of 3d printed accessories. I wanted an affordable moderator for the Beeman 1358 I'll soon discuss. They offered a tactical stock set up for the pistol. So forgot the "keep it cheap" mentality and ordered one. I have enough pistols and like the carbine size.

The company is fantastic to work with and I quickly had it. Prices were, in my opinion, very reasonable. Beeman 2027 Tactical Conversion – Buck Rail (buck-rail.com)

So here is the new look:

They also offer a folding rear stock. I was impressed with the fit and finish. I didn't op for the front weaver rail setup.

Light as it looks.

For me a Red Dot is a step above open sights. I really think this gun can shoot a tighter group with better optics.

Damn you Amazon! 🤣 On the other options list they also had a Beeman 1358 .22 Bullpup for $267, $253 for a .177

Of course I had to see what that was like for the money.

Once again the trigger was a bit of an issue. Keep in mind I'm spoiled by having high end guns and incredible triggers. Some may not even think twice about 3-4 lb trigger pull. This one was an easier fix. It has a coil spring on the trigger that a spring replacement from a pen in my drawer made it much better.

Three pull average.

Again with the noise. Buck-Rail offered a moderator for $24, yes, $24. Very befitting a sub $300 PCP gun. While waiting for it to come in I cleaned the barrel, rust color as with the pistol. Pulled an old BSA scope out of past inventory and mounted it up. It does need higher rings for better eye relief. It shot horrible! Cleaned the barrel again. Check tightness of what I could. Flyers, fps very inconsistent, just would not group for anything. Very frustrating. At one point I almost just dropped it into the garbage can I was shooting by. Sometimes life is too short and you just need to cut your losses. Then I thought I really wanted to hear what a 3d printed $24 moderator would work like and put the gun away until it arrived.

I'd also order a combination barrel band, weaver rail so I could use a bipod if I wanted.

When I went to install the moderator a o-ring came out of the shroud. Not thinking, I just assumed a production left over that fell in the shroud and set it aside. Noise was no longer an issue. Moderator worked great. Grouping seemed worse. Clipping??? Then I thought abought the o-ring again and wondered of it was maybe the breech seal? The symptoms made sense. So I pulled the barrel to have a look. Sure enough, no breech seal. I wonder if I tried to pull too thick of a cleaning cloth through the barrel and rolled it out. Dunno. World of difference!!! Shot great. 😀 So glad that 0-ring rolled out or I don't know that I would have thought to check it on a new gun.

The under lever cocking is smooth and I quite like it. Only problem, be sure to commit to the cocking. Easy to double load if you don't complete the motion. Small movement at the end of the pull back stroke can double load.

It's no feather weight. This is with a scope and two full magazines.

Beeman 1358 Bullpup

Advertised as 880 fps. Easy access to the hammer spring and it comes with tools, a degasser, two single shot trays and two magazines.

The magazines load from the front as the center rotates. They have numbers on the top to show where the pellet count is. They don't match the pellet count. None of mine did on either gun. Also don't have a probe stop so you can dry fire not knowing the mag is empty.

Overall I was impressed with the bang for the buck on both guns.
