Are you telling me taking off this rear sight is permanent? If so that is ridiculous! (LINK WITH PICTURES INCLUDED)

I included a link just incase anyone wanted to look at the pictures of the air rifle I am speaking of.

If you want to put a scope on it then the rear iron sight is right in front of the scopes field of view.  The little screw comes up on the rear iron sight to adjust for elevation but once screw is removed rear sight does not detach.  Is it glued on? You buy a brand new air gun which the manufacturer knows people are going to scope it and your saying you got to "rip" the rear sight off?

Can anyone shed some insight on this?  Ty

Well, maybe I'm missing something here but why not just use some elevated scope rings if you're that worried about it? If you get the sight-through style you may even be able to still use the iron sights in conjunction with the scope. Just my two cents.

Do you have the rifle and have run into this issue, or are you basing this off of looking at the photos on the Depot?

But looking at those images, I'd say this is a tough nut to crack for sure! The Magazine looks like a problem as well.

I'd assume, that once you remove the elevation screw, you'll also need to drift the pin out that holds the leaf which the sight pivots. Once that elevation leaf is gone, I'd assume you'd gain access to the screws that hold that riser on. That is assuming a LOT. But that's what I would be looking for. You'll still need tall rings to accommodate that magazine.

P.S., this guy left it all attached;

No there are no other screws that was the point I was making.  Anyone have to take a rear knock a rear sight off?

Figured having a Chief and two versions of the Chief II would cause confusion. Advertized under the same name (Chief II) are actually two somewhat different rifles. One is a 2K fill Chief II and the other a 3K fill Chief II.

They use the same basic sight…but it does come off.

Has no visible screws….but if you unscrew the elevation dial, jack knife it forward, are two screws in the base hidden under the sight. Base is taller for the Chief II’s to match the taller front sight (sitting on the LDC makes it taller).

What do you mean "jack knife it forward?  I don't understand please explain.  I want to do this right.

Love you bro..but I’m not taking the scope off and putting the sight back on just to get picturtes.

Spin the elevation wheel totally off.

Pivot the sight up and forward.

Will be a little coil spring that wants to eject, but basically it "Jack knifes” .....like opening a folding pocket knife.

Base stays screwed to the barrel (even if it is a thick base for sight height).

(Fair warnging...the Commander likely uses a different system….but the Chief/Chief II uses this one.)

Two screw (that were once covered up) hold the base to the barrel. Remove them, and it comes off... leaving two threaded holes in the barrel.

Screws

Dovetail

Solder

Band

These are the 4 ways (I can think of right now) to attach sights.

No one solders anymore, there is no dovetail seen, obviously no band, so the rear sight is either PART OF THE BARREL, or just screwed on.

Since the rear sight finish is not identical to the barrel, it MUST be screwed on.

The elevation screw is only a vertical travel stop, for the rear sight blade. There is a spring inside. The pin, is a hinge pin.

With medium rings, this might not be an issue.
