Are 14-50x immersive series scopes capable of fine focus range finding for field target competition between 10 and 55 yds?

Would like to know if this setup is a good choice for field target competition. Have seen several reviews of these scopes comparing the enhanced field of view and clarity compared to a mid-priced conventional scope, e.g: 5-24 x 50 sfp. Said to be great for hunting, have side parallax knob and exposed elevation knob, but can't find any info on range finding capability. Said to be for recoil-less guns because of close eye relief. Also have not heard of any issues using the close eye relief with glasses or seen anyone using these scopes with glasses. I shoot PCP open class and cannot use a rangefinder other than gun mounted scope. Have not seen anyone add an oversized wheel to the parallax knob either. Thanks.

I wasn't familiar with them, so I looked them up. I would probably say not so good. These are fixed power scopes, and the 14x is well below what most shooters are using. For open class, pretty much anything goes. Better range finding needs higher powers. I think that open class shooters crank scopes way up, which gives them both better aiming, and better range finding. I'll leave it to shooters from that class, with more experience, to comment further.

I have to agree with Doug, I shoot Hunter FT at 16 power, and I think 14 is the highest power they have. I have an Immersive in 10 power on my bullpup for hunting, the clarity is excellent and you have a large field of view because your eye is so close to the scope, which is nice for target acquisition. If you shoot open you want higher power and there is no large sidewheel for ranging.

@rick_vaeth Thank you both for your reply. Sounds like is as I expected. Would be nice to have a little more field of view when trying to aquire some of the darker targets in heavy vegetation with poor lighting. Zooming out helps, but have encountered a few small dark holes with little contrast where a brighter view would be a big help.

For open class you'd be leaving to much on the table.

For hunter, this may work. I've been working with a scope wheel manufacturer to get a wheel to work on the Immersive. Yes, I'll be giving up 2X on the max available, but my Delta is only marked to 15, so I am already down. We'll see, it may be a flight of fancy, or not.

@hitnhome  That's something you're going to have to try. It looks like it's going to have to hang off the back of your rifle due to the short eye relief (.7"). Study carefully the different extended rails offered.

@hitnhome, @sdsteph, if you guys are interested, I found a 3d printer in Florida who will custom print any sidewheel for you. He does advertise a 5” half moon which I have on a Discovery and a 6” wheel on his website. It took about a month but he printed 2 9.5” comma side wheels for me, which are on their way. Looking for more space between 50 and 55 yards on the wheel. You can contact him at f3d-printing on eBay. Like I said, if you want something custom, it might take a while to get a response.

Knobs, Rick et al,

there are many issues with the scope that make it hard to adapt to field target ranging

1) short eye relief (none)

2) really short range of rotation from 10 yards to 55 yards

3) you cannot put a comma or other eccentric wheel with enough space anywhere near your face (see points 1 and 2).

Something very creative is going to have to be created to overcome these points. Interim pictures and conversations have me thinking good thoughts. I passed the scope off at Nationals and still have not seen the final result. Excited to see and play with it when it does. I'll let everyone know if I think this a viable option or just a pipe dream.

I'll ask if I can share a picture the current version....
