Thinking about ordering a scope from Amazon but am kind of hesitant given the way past items have been packed for shipping. If you've bought a scope from Amazon how was it packaged? Was it well packed in the box or just tossed in with a piece or two of semi-wadded up paper for packing?
Probably the biggest thing to watch for is which seller you get it from on amazon. So many times you'll see several (or even a dozen+) sellers, some of which can be newly opened stores or dubious ones who offer the same or lower prices (and generally amazon add to cart options will go with whatever is the lowest at that time). So can be a good idea to check the "Other sellers from Amazon" and the "New(#) from $$.$$ & whatever.shipping" options since you can then see the sellers and general seller profile to see whether they are solid sellers, newbies, or likely a scam job that hasn't been caught and banned yet. You'll generally see packaging feedback many times for the sellers as well unless it ends up being one of those fulfilled by amazon deals (which can be hit or miss).
Thanks for the response. Yeah, I completely agree with you about the different sellers. I try to buy from Amazon when possible, not a third party seller. Sometimes it might cost a little more but I feel better in dealing with Amazon over an unknown seller. But I do occasionally check the other sellers and see what their rating is before I push the buy button. But like I mentioned above, just a little concerned about how Amazon might pack something like a scope. I've had packages show up that had nothing in them for packing, just the items that were ordered bouncing around inside the box.

I did well with a Weaver scope and a Tasco scope but both of those were bought directly from Amazon, not other vendors on Amazon. The packaging was plenty good enough to protect the scopes. Hope that helps.
Have bough about ten scopes on Amazon. Amazon's packing is the worst, period. As said, they put it in a big box with a couple air pillows that do no good. Not an issue. If it is damaged, they pick it up on their dime, send another or give a refund, your choice. Can't see any reason to not buy from them. Don
Thanks guys. Your descriptions reflect my experience with their packaging. I was hoping (against hope apparently, lol) that they might take a little more care in packing optics but from your responses it sounds like it doesn't matter to them what's going in the box.
Thanks Ed. Good to know you had no issues.
Don, thanks for that info. I hate having to do returns but it's good to know that they'll do it on their dime if it's necessary.
Mike, I'm thinking about the Nikon EFR. I really like the 1st gen model I have and wouldn't mind trying the new model.
you could see if Natchez has the scope also I see they have one in there refurbished offerings
Well, I bought dot sights: one made by Leapers, and the other from Hawke. Truthfully, in both cases the manufacturer's packaging was superb with ample foam padding. I experienced no problems at all and they didn't need anything special in the surrounding bigger box. As folks above said, Amazon stuffs the manufacturer's item into a big box with air pillows. If you are paranoid, order it gift wrapped, then it's a box, in a pretty box, in box. ?
