I want a day/night sights with recordability.
Any thoughts?
Other product recommendations for price?
The Wraith is a heck of a deal. Not sure if I can mention dealers, but if you do your homework, it can be had for less than $470 with tax and shipping. Obviously the ATN has some different and arguably better features, but it comes at the cost of, well.. cost, and being more complex and less intuitive. For users who aren't going to use a day/night scope as their primary or only optic, the user-friendly interface and intuitiveness of the Wraith wins hands down.
Image quality in daylight mode is quite good. At a full 32x combined optical and digital zoom, it does pixelate a bit. However, I can still easily make out the details of my neighbor's bricks and shingles at 200 yards. There is no perceptible lag in the image, and it renders color well. Comparing it to a conventional optic and the videos I've seen posted, the field of view on mine does seem tight. That may be an effect of the rectangular screen, and may just take some getting used to.
I used a quality rechargeable Lithium Ion AA to power mine. They are not the highest mAh in their class, and the battery indicator still has only dropped about 20% after the last few nights of playing around- approximately 2 hours. I have the screen brightness as low as it will go, so maybe that helps incrementally. I have not had the chance to stretch the capability of the supplied illuminator yet, but medium power lights up 150 yard images like daytime. The supplied Energizer Lithium CR123 batteries have held up great.
Night mode works well. Mine does not produce a usable image without the illuminator, even with ambient light. Inside of 100 yards however, the illuminator can be set on low with exceptional results. You can see and identify objects and animals without question. The aforementioned tight FOV does detract slightly. If you wanted to scan a large open area, it would struggle a little depending on the range. Focusing can also be touchy at higher magnifications. Somewhere I saw a throw lever available that would probably help in that regard.
Recording is dead simple, and should feel familiar if you've ever used a digital camera, as far as file storage and transfer. Updating firmware is as simple as dropping the file on the SD card, selecting update firmware from the scope's menu, and waiting a few minutes.
Despite a few shortcomings, I think the value is tremendous. If you're willing to wait, I'd be willing to bet that the current technology will be a great benchmark for new companies- and the next gens from the current companies producing affordable, digital NV. If you're looking to add one right now, I don't think you could wrong with the Wraith.
Thanks again for your insight.
I was wondering if Wraith could be used on breakbarrel without avoiding the warranty?
What other options are available for digital day/night scopes?
I can't say. Mine serves dual use on a pb and a PCP. Not having a traditional reticle configuration, it *might*. I have talked with Sightmark over the phone about other concerns, and they've been helpful. It would be good to discuss with them.
I don't know what exactly you're looking for. Sightmark also has the Photon which comes with its own pros and cons. I have not used that in person, though.
Recently put a lot of time with wraith 2x16 on several weapons, 5.56,7.62,.30 cals. Then currently placed on .22 diana chaser. I tried it on gamo .177 to control iguana infestation. I can tell you honestly that i had no problems with wraith on break barrel gun except recoil related accuracy, the scope performed flawlessly. The only failures i encountered were all battery related
Never use duracells or as we call em sureleak.
Get rechargable and search them by highest wattage and be vary carful using usb port, its fragile.
On the diana, ive taken several hundred iguanas since February and still cant miss. If you got one , let me know and i post some pics of the non invasive power mods we found that work
All in all the waith is the best sight i ever used on any air rifle and the thor for the 5.56cal. Hope this helps

Yes it can.
If you are worried about the recoil in powerful springers, a ZR mount can be adapted to use the Wraith, if you have the time, read this:

Panasonic Eneloop is the standard by which all others are judged, far as I know.
If someone can name a better brand/model of "AA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries" that'd be swell. Your endorsement would carry more weight, if you had a smart charge/discharger, and could speak to real capacity.
Edit to pint out that AA Lithium 1.5v primary cells ARE a thing. If I were going to field one of these, lithium is the proper backup cells.
Virtually no self discharge, higher voltage and better capacity than nickle metal hydride. Not competitive in the price dept.
Sightmark also has the Photon which
Seems to be out of stock everywhere. Is it discontinued, or did it get Shanghai'd?
Scrolling down, Gander Outdoors had a clearance price 22 months ago.
The Photon was GREAT scope back in its days.
But tech advanced so quickly and it became obsolete in no time flat.
You can still find them, and the price at which you find them tells you that there are people that prefer that format.
On practical terms, most night shooting is conducted at short ranges, so more resolution does little. But humans are humans and we tend to prefer a crisp sight picture than a blurry one.
That and the desire to video-record, spelled the end of the Photon.
There is talk about bringing an updated version, but we'll see when that one hits the market.
