Hi forum folks.  I’m new today to this forum. I registered to see if I could get recommendations for an air pistol for self defense.

I would like it to be powerful, real powerful, enough to penetrate an intruder some, cause disabling pain but not ultimately kill.

I have looked online at the TR50 .50 caliber 11 joules handgun.  I’ve also searched the Ginsburg gavel.

As far as joules go, caliber ect  I am uneducated.

what do you recommend?  Thanks

I like my Cometa Indian.  It’s not very powerful, but it’s heavy and you could clobber em with it.

@sintocc For self defense, you may want to look into the Pistols that fire the non-lethal Chemical Pellets. They disorient the attacker long enough to take care of the intruder.

@marflow yeah, it’s $500.  The TR50 is less than $200.

i have a bad habit when it comes to this sort of thing

pay the extra money and never have a regret

i watch the Gavel shoot and it hits so damn hard

i sure as hell would not like to be hit by one

so this video tells me spend the money buy the best

in this test all i said was you need more sheet rock for the Gavel

OK...this is fascinating. I had no idea this type of airgun even existed! What kind of projectiles do these CO2 bad boys shoot?

😯

In general, air pistols for self defense is a bad idea. Unless you shoot them in the eye, it will just piss them off. The pistols that shoot OC or tear gas pellets may be an exception, but here in New York the OC/tear gas pellets aren't legal, so not an option.

@marflow I know what you mean.  If there’s a best option, it’s hard not to want it.

@mdriskill There’s different ammo like rubber balls, metal ones, pepper balls.

@mdriskill I agree.  It is pretty fascinating.  A real gun is definitely better to kill someone if you had to, but I don’t want to have that power.  I think one of these co2 heavy balls planted on the forehead would hurt so bad they’d be at least effective to startle an agitator intruder of some kind who wants to cause problems.  And, I don’t want a real gun. Ecause you never know when you might want to just take your own self out, lol.  I don’t want that option.  Lol

In most areas shooting someone with an airgun is considered by law enforcement the same as shooting them with a powder burner.   Check your local gun laws.

My 2 cents

There is a fellow selling one of these on the classifieds right now for like $400, It's not a pistol but I bet it would be an option that you could appreciate...

Just be aware that breaking car windows is absolutely no measure of efficacy or efficiency.

Even a Daisy 35 will break a rear car window or side window

And a slingshot.

Just saying . . .

If you want to get ANYTHING for self defense, look for tests in ballistic gel which can help you really understand the terminal ballistics of the device of your choice.

Keep well and shoot straight!

Why not just get a decent stun gun or taser ?

Bad people like to have lawyers, so that might be a concern too.

If your life is in danger, use a firearm and aim to kill, not wound !
