I bought a 53m for under 50 bucks to my door, a newer one with the ambi grip frame and off course the first thing I did look at the trigger setup        I know that my MO

the trigger has a spring behind it and it does nothing at all to fire the pistol so I put a 3mm x 8mm grub screw in the spring and now you don't have to compress the spring to move the sear

just remove the pin behind the trigger

if you don't like it just remove it

the 53m isn't a bad pistol, I rebuilt the guts with a spring guide and top hat, add some .5mm washer, fix the spring ends

it was a fun little project all done with hand tools, ok a drill press was needed

there is one problem I had and it was taking the cocking linkage pin out and arbor press would have been nice but a vice and some imagination did the trick

so just some ideas

take care mike

oh just a note when these pistols were made they loaded all the main springs up in a car and drove them by a grease manufacture and then brought them back and put them in, of course they didn't but there was no nothing on the spring dry as a bone so lube is needed in any case, at least that was my findings in mine

I'm on my second 53M.  I sold my earlier dedicated righthand grip model, and missed it, so I got one of the ambi models.  (I prefer the earlier grip.)  One problem these all seem to have is not being able to get the rear sight low enough.  A simple solution is to notch the rear plastic plug in line with the scope grooves, and hang the rear sight off the back.  Its easier than building up the front sight.

I like your trigger idea.  I'll have a look at mine over the weekend.

and my pistol has the plug grooved, I have a question what is the spring in the front sight for, was there a set screw at one point, I seem to remember a picture with something that looked  like a set screw

and that trigger adjustment screw, why did they have to use a bastard thread size at 4mm -  .50       too much input locks the barrel down and it is an SOB to get to free up the barrel, I just order some parts to fix that and make it an allen screw, I have already change out the grip frame screws to allen     oh I can seem to leave well enough alone but make better is my goal

but you can setup the trigger to be scary little and I like scary light

it's a good little pistol but then again I stole it for 27.00 buck before shipping, is was at 26.00 and I put on 27 and no one went higher, so I bought a pistol that I didn't know I wanted

mine in short distance tests has no sighting problems

this is a pistol that just kept evolving

Hey, thanks for posting that. I do have a 53. I might have a look at the old monster again, if I can find it. Big, low powered pistol with excellent barrel. I don't remember the trigger being that bad, but with a spring pistol you take every edge you can get.

I met another elderly ice-skating dad who shoots a Crosman Classic into a box full of clothes, and I thought about giving him this one. I might still but that is a nice mod to try.
