I had purchased a rifle version of this model several months back. I don't know why I keep buying rifles. I seldom shoot full length guns. Here is the mini review on that one.

Airmaks Katran first impression | Airgun Talk | Airgun Warriors Forum

I was at Utah Airguns and they had gotten an order of the new upgraded AirMaks in. I was going to buy the Compact but then I saw the Caiman and bought that in a .177  instead of the Compact.

Kept thinking about the Compact. I spoke with the store owner and he was more than willing to take my long Katran in trade towards a Compact. Done. ?  Nothing against the gun, I just thought I'd rather have one I'd actually shoot more. I would have preferred to get it in a .25 as I'm a little .22 heavy but those had not come in. So I picked it up in a .22.

I went with the $150 300cc bottle upgrade over the 165 cc tube. Wanted the extra shot count.

When I say "upgraded" AirMaks has added in stock magazine holders and the stocks on some had a little loose wiggle when closed. So they put an adjustable screw to take out the slack.

I really like guns that can carry extra magazines. I normally put a Chums wallet on the gun to hold spares. Factory is a much cleaner set up.

While at the store with the stock closed we were talking about maybe a side mounted laser sight. You could hip shoot the folded gun. ?

I removed a couple shroud extenders and installed a Donny FL Tatsu moderator. The Caiman is quieter but this set up has a very acceptable sound level.

I quite like AirMaks triggers and the way they break. This one is adjustable. Out of the box it was set up under 1 pound. Here is the average of three pulls.

The gun with loaded magazines and a Optisan scope stayed in the 7ish pound range on weight.

I was surprised at the chrony results. It feels like it shoots much hotter than it shows. I would have thought by feel it would have been in the high 800's.

AM f

As with most any CZ barrel equipped guns it's a shooter.

I tried to get some 50 yard but ran out of light. A lit reticle would have been nice about then. The few I got off looked impressive.

Here's what AirMaks has to say about their Compact.

@pluric Hello, how is it coming with the Katran Compact.  have you increased the speed of the gun at all using the hammer spring adjustment?  Also, it looks like the gun packs down to around 21" with the moderator off.  Does that sound about right?

I have not messed with it anymore. Had it out last weekend as a loaner. The shooter loved it. I'm going to try some lighter pellets and see how it groups.

It's 20 inches folded without the moderator.

Okay so I tried the 14 gr JSB in the gun. Here is the chrony result.

It's the speed range I was looking for without any gun adjustments and they shot well.

Still I wanted to try another combination. So I tried the JSB Hades. I believe those are rated about 16 gr. Just noticed I screen shot an incoming call. Opps.

Anyway, I liked their performance and use Hades a lot in other guns so I think I'm going to make them the primary pellet for the Katran. Speed in the high 820's and grouped very well.

Look at that 5 shot dime. ?

So it looks like you are running the two pellets in the 22-24 fpe range.  Which should be good out to 50 yards for target and pests and etc.  Impressive for a little gun.  Also, with the moderator detached a folded Katran C at 20 inches is a VERY backpackable gun.  Just curious, what is your shootable shot count with the bottle?  I think the tube is rated some where in the 30-40 shots per fill range.

@pluric I am happy to hear you are getting those number.  Someone else on AGN reported 36-40 on the bottle version.

If 35-40 good was true it would be very difficult for me to justify $150 for the bottle vs tube version, especially when I have 1.1 L buddy bottle already which easily fits in a backpack.
