just got the Air Venturi Avenger .22 cal last week, and have been testing it for shot count and accuracy- The accuracy seems pretty good, but when i first got the gun, I Drained the air, and lowered the reg to 1900, set the hammer spring to around 3/4 turn, and got about 114 shots in the 30 fps spread range between high and low before going off the reg- I got 103 shots in the 20 fps spread range, which is what i was looking for--  (My ammo is 14.3 crossman pellets only- the speeds i was getting were between 910 and 940 over the course of the whole string- which i thought was kinda high for a hammer spring setting of just 3/4 of a turn?)

The next day I drained the gun again, filled it and set reg at 1600, (hammer spring the same, 3/4 turn), curious if i could get more shots-

I could not- I got 98 shots in the 20 fps spread range between high and low before it started falling off reg- I thought 'hmm, no big deal, still a good shot count, and probably all the gun is going to do shot count wise' (But thought that the lower reg should have produced more shots perhaps?)- but then the next day tried again-

Same 1600 reg, and 3/4 turn on hammer spring- I got 80 shots on reg- all in the 20 fps spread range, which was pretty good, but less than the first string with higher reg pressure- so i tried the next day to see if anything changed-

Results were worse- same pressure, same hammer spring, same reg- the count was 59 shots before falling

I tried increasing the reg just a bit to 1800, but it made it worse- i only got 38 shots in the 20 spread range- another 20 in the 30 spread range- before it fell of the reg- (and note- this is with deleting the first few shots which are usually higher than the normal spread by quite a bit even though i dry fire the gun a few times to settle reg after changing it)

----I see folks setting their regs to like 1800, their hammer spring to 2 3/4 turns, and getting over 90 shots with very little deviation, in the 20 spread range with 18.13 gr pellets-

----I have seen their eco tunes getting over 115 shots (1400 reg, hammer spring 1 1/2 turn) with 15.89 gr pellets, and their pro tune get well over 90 in the 20 spread range with low deviation around 4 or so- my standard deviations are in the 11- 20 range

I have checked or air blowing out of the probe area, by placing light tissue over it, but don't see any movement when i fire the gun- nor do i feel any air escaping there

Well it seems you have to study the performance of you avenger a lot more, testing and making arregenments, mine works well with 1400 psi regulator setting and 3500 psi pressure , and 2 turns HP for 90 shots al 890 fps with 16 g jsb.

This may help

Hello- thanks for replying, i did actually do 1400 (but filled to max pressure) and hammer spring at only 1 turn- still was getting high speeds (in the upper 800's and low 900's, but low shot count on the reg- it was aroudn 73 before it started dropping drastically each shot- ). I have it on 1600 reg now, and only a 1/4 turn hammer spring- my average was 903 on today's test - and still only got approx 58 shots in the 20 spread range, then it fell to 32 spread average for the rest of the fill which was about 15 more shots- so about 75 shots total- if outside of the range I woudl like to see- The standard deviation today was better @ 9 but still high i think-

When i first got the gun it was fine- loads of shots- deviation was low speed was good- (about 950 at 1900 reg and hammer spring at 1 turn if i remember right) but now it's dropped a lot- I've been running tests for about 5 days now- the gun was bought a little over a week ago- i was able to get 114 @ 1900 reg and 3/4 turn at first- now not anywhere near close to that- I tried 1800 reg, and didn't get many shots at all

I want this to be a plinking gun for practice- so low reg is fine- and i woudl like it to be i n the 850-900 range but I just think something is not right with the gun- I'm waiting on the place i bought it to get back to me on it- the other thing that is an issue is the standard deviation- it's gone up as the shot counts have dropped-

I can still send it back, but I'd like to fix it if it's something simple- but other than air leaking out of probe, i don't know what to check for? I'll give the 1400 another try tomorrow, and try the 2 turns on hammer spring- see what happens- Hopefully it improves- but it didn't before-

In actual practice on the range, I am getting 70 shots per 300 bar unregulated fill using the EcoTune parameters on the regulated side and Predator 11.75gr GTOs.  There is a some usable unregulated pressure remaining after 70 shots, but I stop at an even 7 mags.

In truth, I had a similar epiphany: the dude in the video is getting like 120+ shots and I'm only getting 70 ?!?! What the ?!?!  I have a hunch he had some serious tuning done and did not use an "out of the box" machine for the video.  I suppose that is good news if you are willing to go through the process of tuning.  I think the MFG instructions do mention "settling in" and that the hammer spring will need adjusting after so many shots.  Mine is still purring after initial EcoTune setup 4 months ago.

For reference, I'm using the DonnyFL adapter and a 7" X 1" diameter LDC.  It is so quiet you really only hear the internal mechanical pieces with near zero report.  Without the suppressor, it gives off a very loud crack.  Shot count is unaffected either way.  So it seems intuitive that the gases are being directed out of the muzzle, i.e., no leaking and I'm getting 70 honest shots.

Good luck with your shot count !

thanks for the reply- the thing is, my first 2 shot strings were phenomenal with a higher reg of 1900 (My latest tests have been @ 1400 and 1600)- very little Standard Deviance, 114 shots on the reg before it started losing fps each shot, (there was still some shots i could have done off reg) and very low spread-

The third string was almost as good @ 98- but then the day after that things started really going downhill-

My last shot string yesterday was just like 52 @ shot spread of 20, with a pretty low eco tune of 1400, and 1/4 turn- about as low as i could go almost- then like 10 more before it really started declining- I'm getting like half of what i was getting- and the standard deviance was 18-

You are likely right about the fella tuning his gun professionally to get such high shot counts consistently, but it just seems to me that something went wonky with my gun where it lost almost 1/2 it's shot count in just a few days shooting- 70 good consistent shots in the 20 spread range woudl be fine- but i can't even get that- My .25 Seneca Eagle Claw gets almost the same shot count (about 46- but of course it's not regulated) and hits a ton harder- I bought the Avenger .22 hoping to get significantly better shot count after watching a bunch of videos and seeing people getting great numbers- i planned on it being my target practice  gun as it's cheaper to shoot than the .25 on a regular basis. If i had just lost say 30 shots, I'd be fine with that, but we're talking losing almost 65 shots from day 1 to now- a few days later- and even while using a far less reg setting too-

I'm speaking with the sellers- and likely will exchange it- I was hoping that it was something simple- but i can't feel any air escaping anywhere- so i don't know if there is a leak inside the gun or not? The pellet probe seems to seal fine- I just don't know enough about these guns to tear it down to find the problem myself- I did fix my Eagle Claw myself, but that was simple- had the wrong spring in it- had a .22 spring in it- they sent me the correct one, instructions how to do it, and it's fine now- but I don't think the issue is the hammer spring in this Avenger- but again, i just dont know enough about it to know for sure-

Yep- my next purchase will be the moderator- My avenger isn't too loud now, but would be nice to be a little bit more backyard friendly-

Update- I exchanged the .22 avenger for a new one- I have shot nearly 1000 round through it all at 1800 regulator, 1/4 hammer spring- for an average speed of 880 with 14.3 gr crossman pellets, domed- Bottom line is that i have gotten consistently 100 shots on the regulator (a little more one day- 112 before speed began falling off quickly- ). This new .22 is very consistent and very accurate as well- I'll probably be putting the gun up for the season- winter, but will likely get a few more shot strings before doing so- but so far so good-

Shot @ 150 yards- and wow is this thing accurate (although I'm not a great shot- the ones i didn't manage to pull the shot on were hitting exactly where they should have- given the distance and arc- it was cool to watch the pellets through the scope arc out to that distance and hit the target where you wanted it to- time after time- a slight wind did kick up- maybe about 2 mph which was enough to push it off target @ that distance- but was easily compensated for once i found the right mark on scope reticle to use for windage-

Note= i did have to shim my scope to reach out to that distance- but it was easy- with cut strips of soda can aluminum. had to use about 6 pieces- worked great though- lotta fun target prac ticing at that distance with pellets- I came from break barrel pellet guns, and no way would i have been able to shoot that distance accurately-

Anyways- new gun is working great so far with right around 100 shots per fill- might try it @ 1400 reg to see if it increases any-

It is amazing how easy it is to adjust power on new airguns, letting us shooters to try our way to the balance we want. Air Venturi Avenger .22 seems to be a very accurate airgun, one of my buds swear for his.

Enjoy it!

Yeah, love being able to try new settings on it- been a lot of fun, even with the last one that had something wrong with it- it still shot very accurately- glad i bought it- wish i had bought it before i did the Seneca Eagle Claw .25 though- that gun is fine, and good for garden pests- but i do enjoy the Avenger .22 much better-

Will be making some adjustments to mine tomorrow.  I want to keep it at 30fpe with the JSB Diablos, 18.13gr.  it hits like a hammer now...I don't want to lose that, but the regulator is currently set at.1900, but after filling it up today, it crept to just over 2k.  I'm not sure of the hammer spring position. I need to keep better notes. I drop about 500psi, per 10 shots, so it seems I can lower the regulator and increase the hammer spring to still reach 30fpe, but increase my shot count.  I let my buddy shoot it today, as he currently has a Gamo maxxim...the look on his face was priceless...much like mine when I switch back to the PCP after shooting the stoeger Springer...I told him to join up and haunt the classifieds.

@awilde Thank you. Good information.  Explains why my regulator crept up after I filled it. I've had it for over a year, but haven't shot it much. It developed a leak, right as the warranty expired. BigTinBoat found the issue...there was metal shavings in the pressure tube, and they had made their way into an oring....He got it sorted for me, so now I'm am going to get a chance to enjoy it..starting with making adjustments to have as high a shot count as possible, at 30fpe.

I degassed, turned the hammer spring out and started from scratch.  I'm basically back to where it was...just a smidge under 2K on the regulator, with the hammer spring backed off from full, about half a turn.  880/890 with the 18.13 JSBs....the Crosman Premiers at 14grains are a little hotter, in the 900/920 range.  I can always dial the hammer spring back a tad if needed.  I will get some paper time in a little later today.  Got my work out in pumping it up by hand 3x times this morning.  Nice to know the regulator is easily replaced if needed.  I am getting fairly consistent fps, and the it is holding steady on the gauges. I'm content for now, as long as the target results agree.

@shootnfishndorf Good deal, if you end up finding yourself lacking in number of shots some folks have started upgrading their avengers to using 480cc carbon fiber bottles with custom adapters to fit the avenger now. Probably push it up to 100+ shots (something I wish had been around when the gauntlet 2's first came out since I probably would have gone that route instead).

@awilde  Thanks for that Video- That is phenomenal that he's getting 132 on a .25-

I get 100 shots with my new .22 avenger gun But the settings are kinda low-  using 14.3 crossman pellets- 1800 reg- and 1/4-1/2 turn on hammer spring- I'm getting an average of 885 fps (starts out @ around 910 or so, then drops to around 870 or so before it's off the reg), I'm not sure what the fpe is- likely not too high- Have done 12 sets of 100+ shots now, gun is holding up good so far- If i crank the hammer spring to like 3 turns, i get less shots, around 80 but faster speeds of course- harder hitting pellet- (Hardair Magazine article states there's no real advantage over 3 turns on hammer spring- only slight gains- biggest gain is from 1-3 turns- so i kept it @ 3 turns for the test )

I wonder what i could get for shot count if i put a larger bottle on it?

I shoot just target practicing with this gun- so i don't mind the lower settings as long as everything stays pretty consistent- my .25 Seneca Eagle is more for garden pests- and just about as accurate as the avenger out to 60 or so yards- maybe slightly less- especially if it jumps kinda wildly on fps between shots- but usually not so bad that i couldn't take care of a garden eating groundhog-

@nazareth I would send it back, informing them of your findings. Let them make it right then you can spend your time ( and pellet$ ) learning your new gun . ( one presumably 100 % ) good luck sorting it out.

Thanks, yeah I did. They sent me a replacement which works as it should. Really pleased with the replacement. I spoke with their tech support in email, and we tried to determine what was wrong, but couldn't, so,there suggested sending it in as it was stil. Under guarantee, so I did. I get right around 100 shots now, with higher hammerspring and reg setting.

Is anyone aware of the weight difference between wood and polymer?

How does the polymer stock rate on a scale of shite->not quite as shite as expected-> decent?

Does this barrel shroud include baffles, like a Marauder?

What is the minimum setting on the regulator? 900? ?

I feel like I'm gonna have to buy another PCP, eventually. OTOH, no hurry, waiting for the market to mature.

Are we there yet?

@gratewhitehuntr The stock is hollow and resonates everything that touches it.  It can be filled with anything you choose to fix it...It needs the weight, as it is super nose heavy without it.  There are no baffles...I used a Donnyfl adapter to get the threads I needed.  Not sure on the minimum reg setting, as it is packed away at the moment.  Mine is set fairly high (1900) to throw 18 grain JSBs. I can get around 40 hard shots when full.

@gratewhitehuntr my hollow stock gun is very very accurate- I took it out to 150 yards, with a slight wind, and it was very good- (I'm not the greatest shot- but my groups were about 2 inches when the wind died down once i got it dialed in for 150 yards- The pellets you could watch drop quite a bit- but it was hitting in the same spots within a 2 inch circle as long as the wind didn't push the pellet-  At 70 yards it is under 1 inch- My .25 Seneca Eagle Claw isn't that accurate- @ 70 yards, it's over 1 inch (might be the crappy H&N pellets I'm using- but might be the gun or my horrible shooting- hard to tell)

The barrel has a sort of in baRREL moderator- it's a plastic insert i nthe end of the barrel with three parts that the pellet goes through before it exits the end- hard to explain- ot sure exactly what they call it-  don't know how effective it is- it's not overly loud in .22- My seneca .25 is quite a bit louder-

Min reg i think is around 1300 or 1400- hard to tell with the small reg guage-

@shootnfishndorf Wow- you only get 40 shots @ 1900? I'm getting 100 plus @ 1800- you must have your hammer spring pretty high?   I personally prefer  keep mine quite low as I'm looking for shot count, not hitting power- (I have my .25 Seneca for hitting power- that gun will hit @ around 70 fpe with a 33.95 pellet- plenty enough for garden pests)

@nazareth yes ..it is turned quite a bit....maybe I should revaluate it....I got to the point of it is hitting hard and grouping nicely...so I just stopped adjusting...but if I can get more shots...I will recheck it...I drop 500psi per magazine.

if it's working for you, i would keep it therre- each gun is a bit different- I probably could group better if i found hte right hammer spring setting, but i really like gettign 100 shots peer fill, so i don't mind if it's a bit off accuracy-wise- it's not off by much- at 70 i can shoot well enough to take care of smaller garden pests- so to me that is fine-

@nazareth Hello, I just found your post and my .22 avenger is on the way. Just curious how many shots you can get after lowering the reg to 1400psi on the replacement?

Hello- i haven't tried it that low yet= I'm still averaging a bit over 100 shots @ 1800- i would expect it would increase set down to 1400- Note- i do keep the hammer spring low- around 2-3 turns- I'm more interested in shot count and a good speed for accuracy- I don't know hwat the optimal settings would be for that- but 1800 and 3 turns hammer seems pretty accurate to me
