Blue book value states to add 20% to 300s for SL, 100% for universal.  Cannot complain about that!  Finally put this gun together after a long period of being in pieces.  Had five SS-1's in inventory, so decided this was a nice gun to install one of them on.  The SS-1 had spacers too.  Now that is rare.  At some point I'll clean the barrel and try CPL's out of it, since I only have 40lbs. of them.

Well one things for sure, I like it.  I have always kept my eye out for a real cherry of a Match L, I have not seen them often for sale.  How does the little scope shoot?  I have seen them for sale off and on for years, but never held one in person,

I have only found one brand new 300s, and that is a 300s RT TH that I still own.  I've had a Match L purchased from a collector about a dozen years ago, and that gun was not cherry.  The universal in the pictures is not cherry either.  I'd say 90%.  Probably close to the top of grade in the used market.

The SS-1 scopes are awesome for distances less than 25 yards.  For period correct pieces I like them, or for 10M guns.

Technically speaking, the 1st- and 2nd-gen FWB 300S "Universals" did not have an adjustable comb. They came with two combs, two front sights, and a rear sight riser, for a choice of high or low sight lines (all that being said...you can improvise spacers to fine-tune the heights easy enuff!). The 3rd-gen U did change to a single comb, with height adjustable via a knob.

The 300S "Match L" was a special edition intended to match FWB's rimfire match rifle of the day. The profile shape is pretty much identical to a 2nd-gen U with low comb, but nothing on the stock moves beyond the standard sliding buttplate.

If the pics in the old Beeman catalogs are correct, their late versions of the standard gun had the L stock though, or one very similar with the longer, stippled fore end. Possibly not as rare as we think?

Here's my pet 300S - your basic collector's nightmare LOL: Junior action (aka "Mini" - a birthday gift from my bride) in an L stock (an evil-Bay beater that Doug Phillips miraculously resurrected).

I love the mini in that stock...!!! The two comb, two sight version would definately be one I'd love to have, but have never seen one surface for sale in my searches.....

Thanks! I do enjoy both shooting and looking at the little mongrel, LOL. The absence of the long barrel and heavy sleeve out in front makes a HUGE diff in feel - any Mini is a much funner offhand plinker than a full-race match 300S.

In my experience "U's" like to turn up with only one cheekpiece; usually the high one. I have a "U2" and it took years to find a low comb (actually from a "U1"). Here it is with high and low sight lines for comparison:

Sonnysan, whilst I was blathering off in other directions, I forgot to mention what an awesome gun-scope combo that is!

One can think of the SS-1 more as the ultimate in peep sights, than as a "serious" scope, LOL. Either way...a perfect choice for a match rifle.
