For my .177 caliber guns, there are excellent wadcutter choices: I'm a big fan of H&N Match Green. I cannot find a lead free wadcutter in .22 caliber. I would pay extra for this because lead free is mandatory around my place with an abundance of kids. Plus with my luck, I'll get burned by those pesky CA lead free laws: I do use Predator GTO domed 11.75gr for creek rats. But target shooting is more of a family thing making lead pellets highly undesirable, albeit legal in sunny CA.
I'm thinking a couple of things: 1) am I just blind or are there really no lead free wadcutters available in .22 cal, and 2) if there is enough interest, can we place some kind of custom order and have some made (yeah right), or 3) Meisterkugeln here we come - see pic.
Under Standard circumstances, we CAN order specially made pellets. It is just that you have a MOQ (minimum Order Quantity).
With JSB, that order is a full pallet. Now a pallet is about a ton of pellets (2,200 lbs), so in terms of quantity (you are talking of 15'400,000 grains of lead, or about a million pellets of the 10 grain'ish weights once you factor all the packing and the pallet itself.
NORMALLY, a 13.7 grs pellet in lead (JSB Jumbo Match) will come out as an 8.23 pellet in tin.
So, the order would have to grow by a factor of 1.21 from the "million pellets basic" to about 1¼ million pellets, to reach that same "Ton of Pellets"
Price goes in a relation of 2.5 to 1 between Tin and Lead pellets, and since you are talking of base prices of around $18 per tin of 500, since there are 2,500 tins in a an order of 1'250,000 pellets, you would be thinking of a retail value of around US $112,500
Bought as a pallet, you would obviously receive a much better price, but with Sh & Hdlg, and duties, and brokerage, you would still be looking at an outlay of about US$75,000 at least.
The really bad part is that you still see a LOT of US shooters thinking that shooting lead indoors is TOTALLY safe (as if such thing really existed), and the market is not ready for the change, IMHO.
If you REALLY want to test the waters, why don't you start a "fund me" style of project, take no money, but just a firm promise, and see if there is enough support for this.
Now, thinking that you are shooting INDOORS, and that there are GTO's for lead free pesting, I would think that it would be easier to switch the guns you use in the house or near the house, to 0.177" cal and use the SAR series of pellets, almost as good as the GTO's and H&N's, but much less expensive. They were designed like this.

I know these are not wad cutters however I have been quite pleased with the H&N Barracuda 22cal 12.35gr alloys
My 2 CO2 pistols Diana Chaser & Webley Nemesis shoot them quite accurately; consistently.
Great for targets & just enough knockdown power to take out a Starling at 10yds
I have burned through 2 tins of the Barracuda Greens, and I agree, they are indeed excellent in both my 2240 and Chaser. I may well return to those as opposed to gathering up the estimated $75K for a pallet of custom wadcutter pellets. ?
I did find a survivalist dude who was making his own molds but the resulting pellets looked badly ragged. Nor can I imagine making 500+ pellets that way... ?
