In the woods at 8am out at 11am, gun used was my HW100 .22 Laminate and 15.9 gr FX pellets. Worst day shooting in a long time bunch's of missed and 2 lost squirrels that made it into holes, one was a head shot that must of hit low, fell halfway out of tree grabbed limb and ran up into a hole in side of tree. Another was on ground 38 yds away facing me cutting a hickory nut, just as I squeezed trigger he lowered his head and I hit him in back/mid section somewhere, he made it to a tree but couldnt climb and was on backside of it. I figured I would leave him and let him hopefully bleed out, another fox squirrel ran up a tree that was about 15 yds from squirrel I shot and I head shot him. When he hit the ground the wounded squirrel took off down the hill and made it to a huge brush pile to never be seen again. The tree he was hiding behind had a pool of blood that looked like he should of died about 6 inches around bright red and about 3 inch up on trunk where he tried to climb it. Shows just how tough they can be.
While I really like the HW100 its not a good offhand gun due to its weight, its good early in year when they are up in trees and you can use a tree to rest against. These squirrels were moving non stop had to be quick to get a good shot. Anyway ended up with 5 squirrels after a frustrating morning.
We all hate loosing game, but 5 in the bag is a decent recovery for sure. I'm STILL jealous!
