Who makes the best AND affordable bullets for airguns?
I am into long range Benchrest shooting. I have been contemplating seriously on using bullets mainly due to the superiority of the bullet over the diabolo form factor for serious precision long range.
Years ago, someone was experimenting on cast bullets, with tethered pcps for benchrest work. I can not do that.
Is JSB making good bullets yet? Do we have to change twist rates in accordance with the different projectiles used? Which barrels are excellent for airgun bullets?
Not sure 'best' and 'affordable' go well together with much of anything...ha. Affordable is subjective anyway.
If you are serious about long range benchrest, your best option is to cast your own. Otherwise you will find yourself spending a ton to find the best bullet for your particular barrel.
I have seen barrels of the same make/everything prefer different bullets or pellets depending on many factors so to say that x barrel or x gun will always shoot x slug well is just not feasible.
All those who believe in psychokinesis, raise my hand.
Good judgment comes from experience; experience usually comes from bad judgment.
A few years ago, I remember we had a guy here ... Chuck was his name if I remember correctly, who cast his own slugs.
At this point in time, I think you are right about casting my own... but that is just not doable with me. I actually tried with primitive methods.
Maybe someday, perhaps when I am long gone, there will be commercially available cast bullets for airguns.
For now, my best long range projectile for airguns is the JSB.
