I have the HW35E on the way from the folks in Arizona. Who can guide me about favorite pellets ( yes , I know to find what works best) , who the best tuner is ( Motorhead in California ? I need contact info) Maximum reasonable range. How does it compare with the FWB 124D ? My FWB 124D came from ARH in 1979. Rebuilt by Steve at Pomona Air Guns 2016. Any help is most appreciated.

I'll try to be nice as to pellets, and not tell you you need to find what works best.

1. Personally, I like mid-weight domed pellets for all around shooting, especially in mid-power springers.  Good pellets to try in that category are the H&N FTT and JSB Exact 8.44 gr. pellets.  The domed head tends to give you better accuracy/ a better BC than a wadcutter.  But, if all you want to do is punch holes in paper targets, IMO you can't beat a wadcutter for cutting a nice round circle out of a target--those are easier to see, even at long distances.

2. You really need to find what works best.  More than anything, that means works best as to accuracy, and possibly knock-down power if you want to hunt.  You didn't really think the answer to that question had changed since the last 100 times it was asked, or that someone was keeping a 'secret shortcut' from you, did you?  Nope and nope.  (I'm really just funnin' you a little here).

Safe and Happy Shooting!

My HW35 was an absolute laser with Crosman Premiers in the brown box 7.9grain but your mileage may vary since it has been YEARS since I bought a new box of Crosman Premiers since they are a hit or miss these days.

From the current production Crosman brand ammo, I can only recommend the 7.4gr Crosman Premier Pointed which works extremely well in many of my guns (not most but many) and the Premier Super Match wadcutters (but you probably want to shoot past 20 yards so this is a no go).

You may luck out and find the CPHP 7.9gr from Walmart may work for you as well since those are hit or miss as well. So are the Benjamins in the 750 count tins which look like the CPHPs for cheap.

Shot in the dark here since yours is different and not all guns/barrels are the same even in the same caliber and model gun regarding pellet preferences, the JSB 8.44gr and AA 8.4gr and H&N FTT 4.52 and 4.53 would be worth trying. Probably the JSB Express 7.87gr and AA Falcon and or JSB 7.33gr as well.

Good luck

My 35E will shoot any pellet just fine except the heavies.

Try the CPL first.

Your search may be over.

Welcome to the club.

Stay safe and free..

I would suggest you shoot it "as is" first and have it tuned only if it has a buzz or twang that you simply can't live with. Who knows? Maybe it will shoot perfectly as is and you don't need to spend any more money on it to be happy. Couple of my springers have this twang and buzz but they are so accurate I just left them be. Unlike some others which I thought really needed the tune and some I wanted more power and that is why I had them tuned. Some detuned to 12fpe as well to make them smoother and much easier to cock and shoot all day long too.

I have the HW35E on the way from the folks in Arizona. Who can guide me about favorite pellets ( yes , I know to find what works best)...

I meant to include these items in my previous post, but forgot:

1. Some very-good information about choosing the right pellets for you and your rifle as to type, weight, head design and more:

http://www.straightshooters.com/choosing-the-right-pellet.html

2. A nice way to try several pellets at a small cost by buying a multi-selection 'Pellet Sampler', then buy full tins once you find what actually works best for you and YOUR rifle.

This is the link to the .177 caliber version, but if I'm mixed up here about the caliber of your new HW35, they also carry the sampler in .22 caliber.  Included in their .177 sampler are the 2 great pellets I listed in my other post, i.e. the domed JSB Exact 8.44 gr. and H&N FTT 8.64 gr (the .22 caliber sampler includes their equivalents, but in the larger size):

Ed

P.S. Just a FWIW: I tune springers, as you can see if you copy and past the URL in my signature into the address bar.  But, it sounds like you've 'picked your man', so I'll just wish you good success on your project!  Let us know how it turned out when you get to shooting it.

Safe and Happy Shooting!

Ariwolf9 my HW35E in .22cal likes the Crosman Premier Domes or the hollow points and also likes the Meisterkugelns.  Never opened it up and let the parts settle naturally and it's a real fine shooter.
