Thank you for your efforts but you are stretching it a bit by calling it a review.

That's not a review, it's a self promoting video with no information other than what you have read, or heard.

I think I’m getting it. Just wanted to say thanks for the information about the hammer. I’m not able to get one hole at 100 yards with any of my rifles. I wonder how loud it will be even with the shroud. Hopefully I’ll get to hunt deer in Montana with a air gun someday if the rules change. Obviously that’s enough power.

Dont hold your breath Dave. the "good ol boys " that run FWP do not understand the capabilites of todays airguns. So unless we start a massive state wide campaign to get some of the rules changed, it aint gonna happen. Say "airgun" to those guys and they think "daisy red ryder"

oh yea, greetings from Bozeman

From my experience here in liberal Oregon, I mention airgun and people think I'm talking about airsoft.  Then I have to "un-nerdify" the situation.  To me shooting our type of airguns is simply a niche of rifle shooting, similar to some one who collects rimfires...  Where as I imagine airsoft guys as armchair special forces guys who own backpacks with extra pouches to carry their extra pouches for the backpack, and paint their face up to watch the movie sniper.  Then if I do talk to a rifle shooter about airguns and conversation leans towards rifles, they're stereotypically the type that believe the benefit of hand loads is to get more powder in there for added "power", they understand fpe more then moa.  It does seem like PCP is being marketed hard to the AR guys and "predator hunters", last few magazines I picked up there was at least a whole section on airgunning.  Perhaps in another 20 years or so...

OMG I almost spit my coffee out.......

I think the common ground you need to start on with powder burners is hunting...... then work it back to the gun...... find some commonality first.

The account got suspended for 3 months because some of the early videos had close range shooting of aerosol cans and some other shooting practices that were "unsafe". Dangerous videos are not allowed on Youtube. (I didn't know that) From now on I will be sticking to the facts only or blowing stuff up "from a distance" . Thanks -Nate

I'm not a Umarex Hammer rifle so I don't see how it's a self promoting video. I agree calling it a "review" is open to interpretation...but I am an airgun expert, I gave my review of the options and what I expect and think of the new rifle. If I said the words "that's pretty cool"  anywhere in the video then that was my "review" of the rifle. I think it's pretty cool. If you buy any rifle that I think is "cool", then you know your getting a great rifle.

The problem is that you were promoting your "Airgun Channel" on Youtube. - That's self promoting. Just because YOU THINK that it looks cool, doesn't mean that it is cool!

"If you buy any rifle that I think is "cool", then you know your getting a great rifle. "

That's a pretty stupid statement. Since you didn't buy one, shoot one, or even hold one, how can you actually say that it is cool? Your opinion, based on no real information, is not a review!

And here's a great example of an airgun that doesn't come any where near the advertising hype. Sounds cool doesn't it? Better accuracy than any rimfire .22 rifle, ammo costing $0.003 per shot (that's $1.50/500), I don't think so!!!

https://gunassociation.org/products/1sc/best-hunting-air-rifle/?ref=GunCarrierPostAd

And, what are you credentials that make you an "airgun expert"?

Thanks for the link to the "review" of the Umarex Hammer air rifle with 800 foot-pounds of "torque", Airgun Channel. That torque statement alone belies your claim, "I am an airgun expert", and your reliance on parroting manufacturer propaganda similarly belies any reference to this BS as a review.

However it may be a matter of perspective. Apparently in someone's imagination anyone who can read can be an airgun expert, whether they know diddly-squat about airguns or not. Truth is, you've alienated any actual experts with that video.

And just when you think things couldn't possibly get any more asinine, DW proves we ain't seen the worst yet with his link to the new Girordani wonder-rifle! What the hell?!? 🤣  The ad police must be asleep at the wheel; more likely on the take!

Thanks for the good laugh DW, and calling out the airgun expert for what he is. Happy shooting, Bud.

And then there's this quote from his comment on Youtube, below the Hammer video:

"and 1 hole groups at 100 yards! "  Yea, right!

Also, his previous PCP fill station build video, that got called out for building it out of low pressure fittings, instead of high pressure fittings, and glossing over the 15yr lifespan on the tanks.

Hardly an expert!

Oh, that Girandoni air rifle scam is at least 3 years old. The rifle that they're showing is an XS25S, that you can get cheaper elsewhere.

Unfortunately Man has disrupted natural  "thinning of the herd" population checks with unnaturally tolerant laws and social attitudes; fortunately he can't eliminate them entirely (example- use of low pressure fittings for multi-thousand PSI applications).

Likely relating to that unnatural social tolerance, comes financial opportunity for profiteers inclined toward hype, deceit, and outright bull-s***, like the Girordani huckster. Meanwhile, the HONEST, hard-working businessman is fast becoming an endangered species!

I want to cast my own bullets for the Umarex Hammer .50 cal.
My choices are .490 and .517 for bullet molds. The .490 is 320 grain which I prefer.
What size mold should I use?
Umarex says the Hammer can shoot anything a black powder can shoot. Does that mean lead balls?
And will lead round balls mess up my Hammer’s barrel rifling? and are round balls accurate as bullets?
Thanks -Nate

The video Doug Wall is referring to with improper fittings was deleted by me about 6 months ago. The latest video you will find all the info quite accurate.

I claim to be an airgun expert...not a high pressure air tank expert. I did get this video right on my 3rd try though. Thanks for watching at least!

also... I bet the Hammer will do 1 hole groups at 100 yards, that's what the manufacturer said.

In response to pistolero and Doug Wall:

I did buy a Hammer from Pyramid Air so I do own one. I'm going to cast some ammo for it while I'm waiting for it to arrive. My credentials as an airgun expert are I own over 25 high end PCP rifles and I spend alot of time shooting and buying and selling my personal guns. I'm way more into the hobby than most and I am able to buy more guns than most people (I'm not married).  I buy and sell about 20-30 guns in a busy year. Mostly I buy guns to try them out then try and break even or make a couple hundred when I sell them. Iv'e done it about 100 times.

I own air rifles that would blow your mind...too awesome to even talk about.

P.S. This week I bought this Limited ROSSO High Power .25...sorry guys, I got the last one!!! (Only 200 made)

I hope that comes with a crash helmet and asbestos skivvies. Son, you are off on the wrong foot here. As I said before, you have to become familiar with your audience. In this case, these guys have been at it since Moses was a baby, so you are teaching granny to suck eggs. And, while the background of this here new version of probably the oldest American airgun forum is yellow, it doesn't mean we like getting into pissing contests.  Owning lots of airguns makes no one an expert. I've had a fair share of cars in my life but that doesn't qualify me as a mechanic. And internet forums are not YouTube. You get instant feedback, up close and personal, like, REALLY personal. Best you develop a thick hide. And just about everyone in this game has been flamed at least once, so don't go feeling you're the Lone Ranger. This league plays hardball.

As to ammo for that .50, you should first see what is recommended. You need to know bore diameter, rate of twist, lead hardness, etc. Plus casting is an art not easily mastered in a day or two.

You should come back after you've received your gun and discuss it with the knowledgeable people here. Trading info was what built these forums.

Ok,  you need to drop the arrogance and stop spewing misinformation.  You are absolutely correct stating you are "not a high pressure air tank expert" and what you are trying to convey is downright irresponsible and dangerous.  I too, saw your first air tank video and was shocked and appalled. Furthermore, you did not "get this video right on my 3rd try though" and your "You will find all the info quite accurate" statement is false.
First, with regard to bending the tank valve, that tank should be secured and not bumbling around in the back seat of your truck...take a look at how scuba tanks are secured on dive boats. At least put in in a gym bag or something to prevent it from rolling around for Gods sake.
Secondly, you have no idea of what you are talking about regarding the valves. The valve you showed is a DIN valve, not a "normal scuba yoke valve" and most DINs  (Deutsche Industrie Norm) sold are of the 3300 psi variety. Granted, some DIN valves are rated 300 bar, but most sold are for non technical diving and are not rated at 4500 psi!  Yours may be, but that needs to be made clear.  Most disturbing, coupled with that 3000 psi Chinese yoke adapter on a 4500 psi tank is a recipe for disaster!  I stopped watching after that, with the thought of a novice watching your channel, thinking how "cool" it would be shooting at aerosol cans and  purchasing hardware store parts for a cheap high pressure fill station.

There are many more people now attracted into the pcp realm with the advent of inexpensive pcps ... stop misinforming and delete that video before someone is maimed or killed by your "instruction"

"Mostly I buy guns to try them out then try and break even or make a couple hundred when I sell them. Iv'e done it about 100 times."

So, you're more of a dealer than an expert. The fact that you pre-ordered a Hammer, isn't the same as owning one. Can you take these guns apart and fix them if needed? (Did I see you were selling a leaking Benji Rogue?)

In an above post, you're asking about cast bullets for the Hammer. Nobody owns one yet, and you're the "expert", so you tell us. Do you're research, find out what the groove and land specs are for the gun, and what other similar guns like, and go from there. You might have to try 3 or for different molds to find the ones that the hammer likes. You could also buy cast lead slugs of different weights, and try them, instead of spending the money on all the casting equipment.

I can see that you're not a HP air expert by the fact that you got suckered into buying a non DOT, CE certified tank, that you may never be able to get filled or hydroed. Is that SCUBA valve on that tank a 4500 psi valve?

I can also see that you're a dealer by the fact that you're selling the tank featured in your "$200 PCP tank" video for $299 on the classifieds.

"also... I bet the Hammer will do 1 hole groups at 100 yards, that's what the manufacturer said."

Maybe one shot one hole groups. If you believe propaganda like that, it's another strike against you as an "expert".

I also see that your Rosso video is another no hands on, pre ownership, propaganda spouting video. Don't call these reviews. We can see better information by watching this video from the SHOT Show.

Almost reads like we are all being catfished.

 Or just me.

I've got a Hammer on pre-order. Annnd I plan on casting slugs for it.  And Umarex responded to my FB post recently, about the Hammer and its intended ammo?

 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Seems a bit fishy.....

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."- Quote from Hamlet (that's Shakespeare).

My choices are .490 and .517 for bullet molds. What size mold should I use?

Quite possibly NEITHER! Assuming no-one knows the correct answer, even the manufacturer, slugging the barrel to find the diameter could answer your question much better than anyone's conjecture. But just FWIW and FYI, after I found my .50 DAQ pistol shoots .495 swaged pure-lead round balls best (DOCUMENTED 1.1" groups at 50 yards), I also discovered that is what the maker built it to shoot best. But if your only choices in bullet molds are .490 and .517, you're shopping in the wrong place!

Umarex says the Hammer can shoot anything a black powder can shoot. Does that mean lead balls?

No doubt Umarex doesn't mean the Hammer "can shoot ANYTHING  a black powder can shoot", because I guarantee you it won't shoot a .58 caliber ANYTHING! Likely not even .517" anything.

And will lead round balls mess up my Hammer’s barrel rifling? and are round balls accurate as bullets?

Not likely that pure lead balls could damage steel rifling (though I wouldn't put that past some individuals). As mentioned above, round balls are the most accurate ammo in some guns, depending on projectile fit and rifling twist. Another good example is a Korean-made .45 PCP I owned that shot best (DOCUMENTED 3/4" groups at 50 yards) with lead balls and slugs just as light as the balls. It shot progressively larger groups the heavier (and consequently LONGER) the slug. I ASSUME that is because the rifle had relatively slow-twist rifling. Point is, much can be discovered through actual accuracy TESTING...

If One is so inclined.

I bet the Hammer will do 1 hole groups at 100 yards, that's what the manufacturer said.

I'll take that bet, Nate! How would you like to proceed?

Steve, I chimed in because this thread was pointed out to me and this fellow has also posted on the Dianawerk. Just been trying to set him straight on safety and how these forums are not YouTube. He certainly needs to read a lot more here to become informed before he wastes a lot of time and money, or gets someone seriously hurt. I recommend he put the camera down and spend a few weeks reading the old Yellow archive when it becomes available. I don't think he's playing anyone. Just a real greenhorn who us at the bottom of a very steep learning curve. Why I said he had started off on the wrong foot. I do like the post, above, that patiently pointed out where he was going wrong with his equipment and why. Guys jumping on his back won't help him get his videos straight.

On casting bullets or round balls, he should try premade ammo and then look into a mold. Plus casting has a butt load of variables, like what alloys work best. Coming originally from muzzle loading, I recommend pure lead. Wheel weights are now about useless, being harder than an ex-wife's heart. And you can't be cavalier with hot lead. Your ego might get burned here, but your butt will actually feel the heat if you screw it up.

BTW,  is there a review function here?

Ciao, Red

If I were to buy one of these I’d immediately go to Dixie arms or track of the wolf for cast round balls or bullets in a staggering variety of sizes. Casting is kind of fun and an interesting pursuit but you’ll need to invest a lot of money to start with one or two molds. And if your gun doesn’t like the results of all that time and money? Well, you can always buy more blocks, maybe a sizing die or two...

Some years ago I unloaded a boat load of casting equipment, for quite a bit less than I paid for it. Don’t get me wrong, I got my moneys worth from it but it took years and a lot of powder and guns to do it.  For a hunting rifle like that Hammer it doesn’t make sense to cast unless you’re already doing it for other guns.
