Rifled Barrel - BBs versus Pellets
I have been reading/hearing that steel BBs can and will wear out the barrel riflings in a pellet gun, while normal lead and lead free pellets won't harm the barrel at all. Now, BBs are dirt cheap and I'd like to use them from time to time to save some $$$. But not if they will damage the riflings in my Vigilante!
So what is the consensus? If you fine folks use dual ammo, how have the BBs affected the riflings, if at all?
steel BB's and rifled barrels = 🤢 How expensive is a Vigilante, or how much is a replacement barrel?
Oh, the Crosman Vigilante is cheap at <$50. Replacement barrel ? My guess would be ~$25 if you can find one. Still, if my goal is to save money using BBs compared to lead free pellets, then destroying a barrel is not the way to go! 😀
at the price of the pistol, shoot what ever you like
it might be a good test of how long the barrel holds up to BB's
it is made to shoot pellets or BB's why not
Welcome to Flyerville, population 5.
I've measured quite a few Daisy zinc BBs from the 6000 pack (inspired by all the pellet sizing round here)
They range from 0.168" to 0.174" with any random BB often having 0.001" to 0.005" out of round, often a lump or flat-ish spot.
I haven't tried more expensive BBs.
There you have it, the world according to John.
