I was at the RMAC this last weekend. It's a Utah shooting competition with all the big names there. They had a raffle and I won the yet to be available, release is very soon, FX mini chrony.

Range Y

My son has been lusting for one since he heard about them. So he was VERY excited. Tried it out this morning. It syncs to a a smart phone through blue tooth and will announce fps by voice if you would like it to. Also can enter pellet information and it will calculate energy. I don't think lighting is an issue. It works placed just under the barrel and I tried it in front too. Pretty nifty for compact field work. AAA batteries so no recharging.

chrony 2

Chrony 1

I was told just under $200. I've not heard an official price yet. Guessing $199.

Edit:

Found this...

Utah Airguns has them in stock waiting for release permission.

If it's reliable and accurate, I'm happy for you, since chronographs are known to be finicky at times.

The blue tooth connectivity capability is a nice feature.  If it was me, I still would have put a numerical readout on it somewhere, but you certainly can't beat the price you paid.  Never look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

Safe and Happy Shooting!

At the shop they had it up against their high end chrony and it was very consistent. A few weeks back I'd posted this thread about the differences in three Chronys.

https://airgunwarriors.com/airgun-talk/who-do-you-believe-lying-chrony/

I like that this one isn't dependent on ideal lighting. It uses Doppler radar (not that I understand that) so a light source is not an issue.

Normally I'm not a raffle player. Just when I saw the chrony and knew how bad my son wanted one I threw some money in on tickets. It was interesting before the event I couldn't find my Atlas bipod. I knew my son had borrowed it in the past and I seldom use them. He saw them on the raffle table and put tickets in the jar. He won the bipod and I won the chrony plus a gun case. Weird how that worked out.

So this is just a Chinese doplar chrony been around for years. FX has their branded app. They sell them for $200.

You can buy the original for $119 google carbon DR. It works just fine with the FX app.

Another option, the $69 option, Acetech ac5000 or the $80 Acetech ac6000

Looks similar, hard to find and the FPS isn't enough for pellet guns.

Reviews were hard on it.

Pfffft it’s the actual original importer. How clueless can ya be? The FPS goes higher based on the app used. The FX app ties into the other ones  SMH

FX didn’t invent it, didn’t make it, didn’t improve it, didn’t even make the app. The only thing the did was put their name on it.

A simple equivalent. Beeman slapping a name on a gun. Or Daystate or FX slapping names on carbon fiber bottles from Inocom

Charlie, the Chinese Carbon chrono only goes up to about 530fps.  The Fx Doppler over 1,000fps or more.  Do you know if the Chinese Carbon Doppler unit maximum fps limitation is firmware-based (built-in to the chrono),  software-based (limited by the phone app), or hardware-based (limited by the bandwidth of the Carbon chrono)?  If you do not know the answer,  (clearly you do know not based on your snarky comment above) I will enlighten you.  A hint:  it has to do with the Bluetooth LE packets sent by the Carbon chrono to the phone app.  Waiting for your reply.

Carbon has a very good reputation in the paintball industry. They are not a company that sells junk. The negative reviews are based on the chrono not working in the customers FPS range. I will send Carbon an email and find out if the their chrono is capable of reading higher FPS. Their's is set up for paintball/Airsoft., which has a field limit of 300 FPS. Airsoft is around 450 FPS  For the paintball/Airsoft players anything more than say 550FPS is unnecessary.  When/if they respond I will let you know what they say the capabilities of the Chrono is.

I just got off the phone with Carbon. Their chrono WILL NOT work for airguns!  They did not design the product/app to read that high of a FPS.

Looks interesting... will it keep track of shot strings, and give statistics like Low, High, Average, Extreme Spread, and Standard Deviation, like the Beta Chrony that I have.

My son tells me yes it will track strings and save them on your phone. Also multi gun owners can tell it which gun you are using and it will keep track of each one. They are suppose to be available now.

I wonder if you can upload the data from the phone to your computer ?

If it only saves shot strings without the calculated data (LO, HI, AV, ES, SD), it would be nice to be able to calculate them with an app or Excel... although since, I'm getting older and lazier, I would prefer the calculations be done easily.
