I've been a long-time user of crossbow scopes on low to medium powered spring rifles.  Most of mine are 4X32.  Tru-glo and Horton.  I like the clarity, and the very versatile reticles.  And a crossbow scope can certainly handle reverse recoil.  Have you ever seen what a crossbow goes thru when you fire it?

But my all-time favorite low-power scope has to be the Tasco Bantam 2.5X20 shotgun scope.  Very compact and light, with a very usable circle-and-crosshair reticle.  Also very clear and bright lenses.  But they're getting harder to find, still available on ebay from time to time.  I think Barska offers a 2.5X20, but I haven't tried one yet.

I concur.  Little scopes rule.  Like the blogger said, they keep you honest

Oh by the way that is a cool spread you have there. and whats up with brown jugs in the shoot shack? Just curious thats all. Thanks

Hey thanks for the kind words @bf1956

Those brown jugs?  Oh, they're just for decoration 😉

New York has had an explosion of local craft breweries over the last 3-5 years and I'm just trying to support the local economy!

I totally enjoyed  that well written post, great pictures  everything, Matt did a super job and awesome info that makes  sense.

there are a lot of weighty rifles  that will feel a lot better  with that smaller scope.

I did not know you Hector from adam but write off  the bat  you are top shelf good ole american good people,

I feel like I just met a great guy  in airguns, one you totally enjoy where  he is coming from.  And very down to earth &  polite what a refreshing thing that is  in this  sport  that often  can  be tainted by the  typical attitude some jerks  have.

I'll be hanging around your website and  try to enjoy what I find  there,

Well, this is what I like about airgunners, LOL!

We do the right thing, then we don't even remember who is who.

In German there is a word : "Nächstenliebe", usually translated as "Goodwill" or "Charity", but the literal translation is: "Love of the Neighbour"

We, the airgunners, may not be "Adults" by any definition  😉  , but we sure are a special bunch,

Thanks to all for your kind words and for reading.

Sorry I'm late getting around to this post...it's a good one, well thought out and presented.

I'm rather sorry I passed it up for a day or two...but I'm also a beliver (although for economics, often use 4X scopes).

In many situations...esp. hunting...field of view trumps magnification.

1.The critters just don't want to stay still, and they are much easier to track/find with a lower power scope.

2.Can get good (to great) definition with a smaller scope when at low power (lens quality being equal)...which really helps sort out the fur from the tree bark (squirrels are that color for a reason).
