I am planning to get a stock crosman 2240. I want to do some power mods to it but have some questions. What fps should i expect with an upgraded boss valve? What about shot count? What other mods can I do to the 2240 to improve accuracy and power? I want to keep the barrel stock length. There used to be a lot more information about this, but since this forum and the green crosman forum changed sites, I can't find as much information. Thanks in advance.

Assuming .22 caliber since you're pumping up the power, you should get about 450 FPS with medium weight (14-16 grain) pellets, largely depending on ambient temperature. Expect 20-25 full-power shots per cartridge before velocities start a steady decline.

Try the accuracy with the barrel as-is, but if it's not satisfactory you'll re-crown the barrel and/or polish the bore with something like JB Bore paste.

As for more information, some of my past books (now out of print) have related information, as does my new book available Friday. The title explains the subject matter (Custom, Classic and Otherwise Awesome Air Pistols!). See attachment, and understand Co2 pistols lose or gain about 15 FPS per inch change in barrel length.

did Crocked Barn Tomcats come with factory valves or something else---bought one years ago used and never thought about the valve

on 2240 facts about valves go to the new Green and post and or Google it, the Green is a little sleepy it will give them something to do and for me to read

I built a 6" barreled 2240 several years back. It had a Disco valve with a Pro-Top, lightened striker, and a .156" T/P. It shoots quite well and has a decent shot count.

Far as I know the Tomcats used Crooked Barn's Boss valve, Marflow.

I would urge you to at least check out the Custom Shop, you may regret not upgrading a few items now. A  LW or slightly longer barrel , long steel breech and Wood grips really added to my enjoyment of this model. These are reasonably priced compared to aftermarket options.
