Aye, not the same as the old Hakko 4x21 Illum. The SS2L has the "skylight" not so?

If I recall correctly,  there's an accessory lamp that screws into the same hole as the sky light dome. It definitely needs a battery.  I'm certain that I have one but am away from home until Sunday.  If you don't make any progress by then, I will post the number of the battery.

My 66RL uses the 357. It also cross referenced as a 303, sr44w, s76, a76, lr44, KA, 13g, or epx76. This info was on the back of the package that contained the 357 battery.

Tried a LR44..didn't fit. Back to square one. The 11.6 diameter is too big. I need something 10-10.3

Am I an idiot or what!!!!!!! Everyone who responded can smack me on the back of my head. From Tom Gaylord's blog "The top-of-the-line SS2, designated as SS2L, came with an illuminated reticle. In those days, illuminated reticles were not common, so this was considered an important feature. Of the three SS2 scopes I’ve owned over the years, one had the illuminated reticle, plus I had all the color filters that went with it. The reticle was illuminated by a skylight overhead that brought ambient light to the reticle. Colored filters let the user change the reticle color to suit personal taste. There was no electric illumination, but a frosted dome was screwed over the skylight to gather ambient light from every direction. This proved very effective until the ambient light failed altogether."  Apologies to all!!! This was a real senior moment!!!

I've got many of all the SS scopes, many of all the filters and the battery powered light. You can use ambient light OR the battery powered accessory. Your choice.
